View Full Version : Gilbert and Grant call press conference today at 2:30

I'm not trying to insinuate that this means anything. But I just saw it on cavs.com
(http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/) that Gilbert and Grant will hold a press conference today. I wanted to see what everyone else thought this could be.

Also, if there's some stupid reason for this press conference - Gilbert and Grant want to have a prayer-circle to make LeBron commit to the team - feel free to lock the thread.

It's a presser to introduce Chris Grant as the new GM. This was posted in the Windy on WKNR 6/8/10 thread.

Sorry. Lock it up. I wasn't sure if Grant had been introduced previously since he was mentioned the day Ferry resigned. Nothing to see here.

Yep it's to introduce Grant as the GM. I received an email from the Cavs to the media on Friday.

they should call out Lebron James for holding the team hostage and tanking in the playoffs. Have some fucking balls. Gilbert should come out and ask why Lebron is going around to all these press outlets flaunting himself around when he tanking the Cavs' chances at winning a title. He should question what matters to Lebron. Stop ignoring the elephant in the room Gilbert. Call out that primadonna

Is there even a link to the video on Cavs.com? All I can find is the banner on the homepage. I'm guessing they'll put it up after the press conference is over.

EDIT: nevermind, they just put one up.

Not to continue the non-verbal communication expert craze that has swept RCF, but you can tell that Grant is a figurehead. As soon as they ask if there has been a formal offer issued to Tom Izzo he looks to his daddy, DG, and waits for permission to move forward.

If I was Dan Gilbert I would be pissed as well. The national media has not be kind to the organization and he constantly gets asked if LeBron is picking the next coach- even in this presser after he said LeBron wouldn't be making those decisions.

Recap

If any of the mods want to move it to the first page they are more than welcome to!

-Grant says they are in a process for a new coach. They said they have talked to a few candidates. At the appropriate time they will introduce a new coach. Grant wants someone who is a winner, defensive coach, strong leader, effective communicator.

-Said they have a process in place for LeBron. Keeping these plans private.

-He dodged the question about making an offer to Izzo. Said that they are talking to a bunch of candidates.

-Said its not difficult to find a coach without LeBron commitment, because they concentrate on winning.

-They are not consulting LeBron about the coaching search. Gilbert said that LeBron is not involved in any firings or hiring within the organization. Said he has not been involved in any trades. Called out Yahoo Sports actually! :)

-Reporter asked if Grant has the final say or not. Grant says they will work together to make the right decision. Decisions will be made together. They want a coach who will have a say.

-Gilbert said next head coach will be just a head coach. They hope they can align interests of LeBron and Cavs.

-Gilbert deferred another Izzo question to Grant. Said Grant is doing all the head coaching work. Again Grant said that they are looking at a lot of candidates.

-Grant said they are trying to find the right guy and they are open to anything. Said they are willing to wait to find the right guy.

-Grant is under an existing multi year contract.

-Gilbert said if the team did nothing in regards to Ferry and Brown, the criticism would be just as loud.

-Said he will guarantee that the Cavs will do their best and do everything they can to win a championship.

-Gilbert said his main motivation is to bring a championship to Cleveland. Not franchise value or payroll.

-Said they will wait as long as they have to for a coach.

-Said they are building the team based on winning and nothing else. Said LeBron has been a big part of the Cavs success and that he is a great teammate.

If I'm Gilbert, I'm almost DEMANDING an "In" or "Out" decision from LeBron. This "We're not consulting LeBron... LeBron had no role in hirings or firings... We have very little contact with LeBron... We're doing these things with the hope that LeBron decides that our interests align" horse-shit is no way to live. Who can build this way?

If I'm Gilbert, I get to thinking really hard about whether winning a championship is possible without LeBron. Certainly not if LeBron and Wade and Bosh join forces. If LeBron and Wade and Bosh are somehow split up, can the Cavs get another superstar soon? If not, what's the point, and should I just sell?

I very much appreciate that Gilbert seems dedicated to bringing a title to Cleveland, but the playing field just isn't level.

At least it seems like Gilbert is committed to keeping the franchise in Cleveland, regardless of what LeBron chooses to do. This is a very big deal considering nine figures of of the man's personal wealth is tied up in one player's decision. Many would try to figure out ways to recoup their losses by moving out of town.

That's why I said "almost". I think that almost every CEO would find such a situation intolerable. The fact that Gilbert appears to be level-headed about it speaks to the size of his stones and his quality as an executive.

If I'm Gilbert, I'm almost DEMANDING an "In" or "Out" decision from LeBron.

If I have a pile of money worth $400,000,000.00, and there is some guy standing next to it with lighter fluid and a match, I don't think I'd yell at him "Are you going to burn that shit down or what?"

Lebron is most likely coming back.

Being patient with him and active in trades is probably the best way to do that.

But as of right now LeBron is the franchise...

This franchise will not bounce back quickly and Gilbert's boat will take on water if the Franchise decides to take his business elsewhere.... It's more than obvious LeBron wants to be coddled and courted... You have to play the game.. Gilbert's going to play...
