Season ending e-mail from the Tribe

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Only in Cleveland does an organization send out a letter (that they didn't have to send) thanking fans for support and get bashed for it...

Only in Cleveland does an orginzation's owner promise to invest money in their team when the time presents itself.

I guess being up 3-1 in the ALCS (and most likely winning the World Series against the Rockies if winning the ALCS) is not the right time to invest. I guess having the most lockdown group of pitchers (including Byrd) is not time to invest in your team and find hitters that can provide support for this pitching corps.

To our organization, that means its time to sell and get young "prospects" so they can continue to suck on the financial tit that is the Yankees instead of providing good baseball for future fans.

I guess the Dolan's didn't realize that the Cleveland Indians once held the record for most consecutive sellouts. Instead they would rather have an empty stadium so they can guarantee that they don't have empty wallets.

They retained the same team from 2007 to 2008. Mid-2008, they dealt Sabathia, Blake, and Byrd, three players who would not be back. And before they dealt Sabathia, they tried hard to re-sign him...from Indians beat writer Anthony Castrovince:

"In the winter before the '08 season, when the Indians offered Sabathia around $18 million a year through 2012 -- the largest offer the franchise has ever come up with for a player -- he didn't so much as sleep on it. He knew he was gone, and he broke off negotiations before they even started in Spring Training."

Sabathia was never going to re-sign, and if you think otherwise, you're very naive. So the Indians turned him into Matt LaPorta and Michael Brantley...and Blake into Carlos Santana. Pretty good moves IMO.

In the offseason before 2009, the Indians felt like they could contend, so Dolan ponied up. They signed Kerry Wood for $10 M per year, and brought in Pavano on a one year deal. Wood didn't pan out, but the fact remains that he spent quite a bit on the guy to try to win. He held to his promise.

The reality is that the Indians can only offer so much to a guy. They paid Hafner big bucks, and now they're stuck with a contract that is killing their financial flexibility. The Yankees paid AJ Burnett big bucks too...he crapped out, and they'll just replace him like it's nothing. Blame MLB, not Dolan.

I love these "only in Cleveland" comments that people shit out every once in a while. I mean...have you ever been to another city before? You all do realize that the nation is full of people that take the sports in their city too seriously and vent against the teams when they lose right?

Believe what you want to believe...it just seems like many Cleveland fans love misery.

We love misery?

How do you figure that? We hate it. We're in it right now. That is why we bitch about it daily, because we hate it. Being a shill for the Indians won't change the fact that they suck.

Because a lot of fans do...a lot of fans just wait for our teams to fail so that they can bitch about it. These fans love misery.

I love it though...you bash the Indians and you're "just frustrated" and it's OK, but because I support them I'm a shill?

If being a shill is supporting the Indians no matter how good or bad they are, then I guess I'm a shill.

If being a shill is being informed enough to know that the economic issues that hurt the Indians and other mid-market teams are MLB problems and not Dolan problems, then I guess I'm a shill.

It's amazing how Browns and Cavaliers fans who support their teams no matter what are praised as "true fans", yet Indians fans who do the same are "shills".

I didn't call anybody a shill. Guilty conscience? ;)

I will always root for the Indians as will everybody else. Being frustrated with how much they suck however does not mean one is "not supporting them" when they're bad. Part of the reason we suck right now and will continue to suck is because our FO has made huge mistakes. Simple as that. Why should people buy into retarded PR from Shapiro and Co ?

Pretty sure that was directed my way...if it wasn't I apologize (but I'm pretty sure it was lol).

As for why should we buy in...

Because they are trying to win...they have made mistakes, and they have struggled because of it...but they are trying to win. You don't pay a closer $10 M if you're not trying to win. You don't be one of the top draft spenders if you're not trying to win. Why did we watch and follow Cavaliers games during the Darrius Miles/Ricky Davis Era? Why do we watch and follow the Browns for losing season after losing season? Because we're true, die-hard fans...all I ask is that the Indians are treated in the same way, and get the same support the other two franchises have received.

The only thing is, the media has drove it into the heads of fans that the Indians won't spend. It also doesn't help that they trade away their best players for nothing (that's what the average fan sees). You have to convince the fans that you want to win. The only way to do that is to stop trading our guys and actually keeping them. Or winning some games for once? or actually putting out a team that looks like a MLB team..

The Cavs had Lebron, and even people that have no idea what basketball is would go and watch him. It brings excitement to see that kind of talent, plus its nice for businesses so go to Cavs games for the sole purpose (a good show). The Browns will always have fans, cause that's how Ohioans are brought up. This a football city, whether you like it or not. They can suck (and trust me they do a good job at that), but every Sunday there's always that small hope that they'll win.. You won't be able find that anywhere else.

It's time for results.

Maybe they should try harder...

"Shut up, PIP, the Yankees like, ya know, spend way more money and stuff...It's so unfair and the system is flawed, man"

Whatever, the Tribe plays in the little weak ass Central division and gets to see the Royals, Tigers, White Sox and mighty Twins 19 damn times per season.... The inability to win in the Central while facing such weak competition is simply lame....

Almost as lame as defending the ridiculous system the Yankees take advantage of...

Yet non Yankees fans only bitch about the one....
