Mychel Thompson waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

It's one game so we shouldn't get too excited. That being said he played well and looked like he belonged. I had been wondering why he's still even on the roster but he at least showed there might be something there.
It would be quite a turnaround if he becomes a reliable perimeter shooter after being such a poor shooter at Pepperdine.

That last line is probably the main reason we haven't seen him much this year. Other than being undrafted and stuck behind Parker and Gibson.

I'd assume that a player with his genes, maybe he caught on and has been working hard in practice and his free time to work on his overall shooting and shot selection.

I would also like to see what his handles are like. The one time I saw him bring up the ball he seemed to be in control and not looking to press. One could assume that with more time and a bigger role he might fall into the trap of pressing if he has the ball in his hands too much.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

He seems to have come along way since his horrendous preseason performance. I assumed he had to have been showing improvement in practice for them not to clear room for Manny Harris. He looked to be in the flow of the game and you would have never known he was getting his first series minutes in the NBA. I think it spoke volumes when Scott left him out there to finish the game that was going down to the wire.

I hope we see more of him soon. Parker can provide veteran leadership from the bench.

If you need veteran leadership on the court, then the coach isn't doing his job. Time to let the young boys run.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

I thought resigning parker was a good idea.. I expected him to start until at least mid season to help Irving on the court.. well Irving has matured way faster than anyone ive seen since larry bird. Time to put parker on the bench as the reseve 3 and let gee start at the 2. so mychel can ge some minutes.

Sit sessions and tell everyone he is on the trading block so it doesnt hurt whatever value he has

All succesful coaches have at least one player on the court who is an extension of the coach.

Irving, AV, Gee, Boobie have all bought into Scott's system 100%.

We may have needed the vets to start the season, but now they're are just holding the team back.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

A brief summary of Mychel Thompson's scoring stats from college (Pepperdine):

  • '07-'08 - 8.1 ppg - 376/373/735
  • '08-'09 - 9.6 ppg - 339/302/773
  • '09-'10 - 11.8 ppg - 354/327/747
  • '10-'11 - 14.6 ppg - 361/301/772
Tennis Elbow?

Quite honestly, I would've liked to see some .400's mixed in there somewhere. Anywhere. Even once.

I'm curious to see how it would look to have Kyrie, Gee, and Omri on the court at the same time...TT too while we're at it.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

He is in such a different role in the pros. At Pepperdine, he was the best player on the floor for a fairly average team. He was a volume shooter because that was the game plan. Now, he is learning to be a defender and floor spacer, the fifth offensive option. Nobody wants to see the undrafted rookie go in and hoist shots like he was supposed to be the first option. Harris found that out the hard way last year and fell out of the rotation.

I want to be optimistic here, but Thompson seems to be a cusp NBA player to me. Here's hoping he changes my mind.

A healthy AP is our best option if we wanna win, which at the end of the day is what everyone on here should be hoping for

say what

healthy AP does NOT mean MORE wins when he continually gets outscored by the opposing 2

I am not ready to annoint Gee or Thompson after one game, but I am going to reiterate in basic terms what EVERYONE else here knows WEAK SAUCE sucks

That would make perfect sense if every player on the team only does iso's on offense and defends his counter part man to man on the other end of the floor.

I'm not saying that AP is the ticket to winning. I'm just saying that basketball is more complicated than comparing PG vs PG, SG vs SG, etc.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

get him some more PT

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Can Thompson handle the ball? Wasn't it Tornicade who pointed out the other day that Scott likes to have at least two guys on the floor who can bring the ball up and handle the ball?

He looked confident the few times he brought it up during the game. He didn't panic when defenders pressed at half court, and confidently passed the ball. We need more than 12 minutes -- I'm hoping that Parker is still "hurt" when we play Boston again at home.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Gibson missed the game too due to a sore neck. If he returns, it's hard to say how many minutes would be left to get another look at Thompson.
