Gilbert buying Indians soon ?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Surprisingly, I've read that 95% of downtown apartments are filled. Seems there are plenty of people living downtown, but very few coming in from the suburbs due to lack of shopping options, terrible parking options and preople moving farther and farther out to the outer ring suburbs where it is impractical to travel downtown for dinner/entertainment regularly.

And about 50% of those are occupied by Indian and Middle Eastern residents...
Go on .....

Taking a Politics and Cultures of Neoliberal Urbanism class this semester & it talks exactly about the problems that cities such as Cleveland and Detroit are experiencing. Middle & upper class families moving out of cities to the suburbs while lower income and immigrants are left in the cities with a crumbling infrastructure that is underfunded. Shopping malls & business also leave the cities and move closer to the suburbs to accommodate the consumer.

I think one of the most appealing things for Gilbert buying the Indians would be the inclusion of Sports Time Ohio. He currently owns the Cavaliers, Monsters, and the Gladiators. Add the Indians and a network to promote them all on would be very appealing to any owner for its cross promotions possibilities.

He also may own the Crush; I know they play at The Q.

This is a good point, and I never thought of it. There could actually be more sporting events on STO and less fluff like ABAO and high school shit.

The league itself owns the Crush.

If Gilbert would buy the Indians, we wouldn't have a Yankees/Red Sox type of payroll. However, I could see it ranging between $90,000-$100,000. I don't blame Dolan for the way he operates given the economics of MLB and the lack of fan support in Cleveland. However, I would absolutely be on board with adding Gilbert - who is the ultra-competitor type that may be open to potentially losing some money if it meant building a World Series champion. Between the casinos, Cavaliers, Indians, and STO (which would certainly be a part of the deal), Gilbert would basically be part-owner of the city of Cleveland.

When i read that the Indian had no one under contract with a guaranteed salary past next season, it screamed going on the market soon to me, just a got feeling.

Please tell me you forgot some zeros in those figures. :chuckles:

I think some of you are going to be severely disappointed if Dan Gilbert ends up buying the team because despite everyone's wishes and dreams, I see no way that he ends up going with plain blue caps.

LOL

Chances of this happening, are about negative. Give up the dream.

Paul Hoynes had been laying hints regarding a possible sale over the last couple of months as well, but on Sunday he printed this:

Hey, Hoynsie: Do you feel that the reasoning behind no guaranteed contracts after 2012 for the Indians is because Larry and Paul Dolan are finally holding the front office accountable? Might they finally clean house if they don't make the playoffs? -- Walter R. Pritchard, Painesville

Hey, Walter: Hard to see how not having any guaranteed money committed to a player past 2012 puts the front office under fire? Couldn't it be used more as an excuse? I thought it might be because ownership was stripping the club down to make it available for sale, but I don't believe that's the case.

Also, Terry Pluto flippantly noted in his podcast last week that if the Dolans were thinking of selling the team, they probably would be doing the exact opposite - that is, signing guys for big money and long years with most of it deferred in an effort to boost the short term value of the club and make it more attractive.

No, I think they're just playing the small market game and doing so very conservatively. Most of their roster is and will be in arbitration years for several years to come, and most of those contracts are tendered year-to-year. It's just a matter of strategy and timing IMO.

What does that matter? If they contribute to the economy and are good citizens, I couldn't care less.

who are the top free agents available next offseason

:chuckles: you guys are going to be so pissed if this happens.

The Indians aren't signing the top free agents in any season.
