Brandon Weeden: GTFO!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

He's definitely not a goober. He's a smart and composed guy and he's not going to get scared out there. There's something to be said for having age and wisdom.

I actually think he's going to end up being a good player, the best the Browns have had since they got back. On one hand...that's nice. On the second hand...that ain't saying much.

Thing is...Heckert has yet to disappoint in a draft. You have no choice but to ride with the guy. And if he picked Weeden, chances are...Weeden is going to be a good starter within two years. Thing is...he NEEDS to be damn good and he needs to be starting fast.

I'm optimistic about the quality he can bring to the position. I'm just disappointed that no matter how good he is, he'll only be that good for a few years. Some QB's can most definitely play until they're 36-37 years old nowadays. But...a lot can't.

Stylistically though, he's the guy who can play for a while. He doesn't run around taking licks. He relies on moving in the pocket and making good throws.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

The only similarity Weeden has to DA is arm strength.

And lack of escapability. Weeden is 10 times smarter and more accurate (and older) though;.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I bet I end up liking the pick a couple games into his first season. The more I watch of him and read about him, the more I'm starting to get it. And once again...in MY mind, the biggest thing he's got going for him is that Heckert picked him. I trust Heckert wholeheartedly.

If he has the ability to have a Kurt Warner or Roger Staubach like career. Older when entering NFL, but a solid 10 year career. Besides, when was the last time a Browns qb was around for more than 4 years. If Weeden makes it past 33 its because he was succesful. Look at it that way and age doesnt matter, its all about ability.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Im not going to lie and say I was a fan of Weeden before the pick. But I don't think its the end of the world either. An upgrade is an upgrade....

Like i said before, if he sucks he wouldnt be around past his 33rd birthday much less his 38th anyways. We havent drafted a qb since we havebeen back that has played more than 5 years with the team. If Weeden beats that then it means he is a good player and still starting his 6th season with 4-6 more to go. If thats the case, not bad. If he is gone in 2 years, its not because of age, its because of the reason all the others were gone.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

The only thing I hate about Weeden is his lack of ability to beat a rush.

I kept reading conflicting reports on this, though. Scouts would say this about him, but then when I would read reviews on game footage they would talk about how he seemed skittish in the pocket on his reads and would panic a little. I wasn't really able to find a true read on this, other than that whenever I read about film breakdown on him that it was an issue with pocket composure (whatever the fuck that is). Just sayin'.

I like getting him, I think that his age has been made into too much of an issue. If he has the physical ability and a good head on his shoulders, you can't limit his ceiling simply based on age. I think the team would have been better off with DeCastro at this pick, but they clearly didn't think he Weeden would still be around at pick 37.

Mine too. My fear is that he is an old school stype of qb (no pun intended). In todays NFL, qb's are mobile, although Peytan, ELi and Brady are not mobile qb's and they have all done ok recently.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Browns grade before pick 22, A. After C

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I'm with those who aren't mad that we got Weeden, but they're mad that we got him at 22. While Colt isn't necessarily the future, he's not the biggest hole on the team, and Weeden's not enough of an upgrade like RGIII or Luck to warrant getting him in the 1st round.

What would've been more worth it: getting Hill at 22 for Colt to throw to, or getting Weeden at 22 to throw to our ragtag core of shoddy receivers?

Trick question: our receivers aren't allowed to go past 5 yards.

Honestly I don't hate the pick I just wish we could have got him a little bit later, that being said if he can accurately throw the ball down the field that will defiantly count for something at least to me.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

People mock his age, but the way I look at it, those years playing baseball were years he spent not getting his body knocked to shit playing competitive football. No concussions, no knee injuries, none of that.
