NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

http://www.fearthesword.com/2012/5/7/3004567/nba-rumors-phoenix-suns-interested-in-alonzo-gee

by Conrad Kaczmarek on May 7, 2012 11:00 AM CDT in Fear The Rumor Mill

As expected, there are some NBA teams interested in the Cavaliers wingman Alonzo Gee. Among those teams are the Phoenix Suns, reportedly.

According to this story from Brenden Bowers from Stepien Rules, the Suns are willing to offer Gee up to $4 million per year.

Over the weekend I was told by a reliable source that the Phoenix Suns are looking to offer Cleveland Cavaliers restricted free agent Alonzo Gee a multi-year contract in the $4 million per season range. I was also told that the Suns were in the lead for Gee's services right now too...

John Telich from Fox 8 tweeted that the Timberwolves and Pistons were also interested in signing Gee.

The Cavaliers have expressed their interest in keeping Alonzo Gee around and can obviously do that if they choose to, since he is only a restricted free agent this summer. That means, they are able to match any offer that he gets from another team in order to keep him on the roster. If the price gets too high, however, they may not want to spend that much money on him, especially if they use a high draft pick on a similar player. The Cavs are interested in both Harrison Barnes and Michael-Kidd Gilchrist in the first round of the upcoming draft.

We'll break down the Alonzo Gee situation with another edition of "Keep or Quit", like we did with Daniel Gibson. For now, start thinking about how much money you think Alonzo Gee is worth.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

If you weren't expecting Gee to be worth a lot of money on the open market, you haven't been paying attention.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Well since Phoenix wants him, I'm not concerned. They constantly overpay for shitty sub par players and hope that Steve Nash can turn them into superstars. Take your money and have fun in the sun. I won't miss your ass at all Gee.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I would be really upset if we lost gee! He has been incredible coming off the bench and i feel like the cavs are some improvement and a good draft away from being a 500 team which would mean contending for the playoffs! we need to keep gee!

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Don't care either way b/c of the draft. He would be great coming off the bench for a Barnes/MKG, however. If the price is right, gotta keep him. Otherwise, as X said, let them overpay.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Oh gee..

I want to keep him

Geez wiz

I'd like to peep him

Another more year of gee would be fine with me

But how about for 3 gee? 4G is for iPhones and droids :)

Yeah, I'd say their interest is real- they've lost a bunch of talented wings over the last year and w/o Nash they'll be looking to go for cheap athleticism. (in the shuffle before lockout ended- lost Vince to DAL, Pietrus to BOS) Grant Hill said he wants to come back, but just had knee surgery and Nash won't be there to make him look good, so I have to believe he's done. So they're left with Jared Dudley (not so athletic) and Shannon Brown (super athletic but not a SF).

I still say stick to our guns at 2 yrs, team option for 3rd at not more than 4mil per year.

X, you've got that backwards...usually PHX has average talent that excels in the Nash system, *then* their inflated numbers lead to huge contracts elsewhere. But yes, if they want to overpay, let them.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I'd have no problem matching 3 years 12 mil...

NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

As we all know, Alonzo is going to be restricted. The Cavs will make a reasonable offer and wait it out. If Alonzo can get himself a better offer, the Cavs will match.

However no team is going to try to poach Alonzo. The Cavs have a lot of money to spend and very little talent to retain. It's just asking for a fight.

My take is that this story was intentionally leaked to start the offseason posturing. It could be Alonzo's agent trying to get a better offer from the Cavs. It could be the Suns telling the Cavs "Stay away from Robin Lopez" or we'll make you miserable in return.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

He is young enough and showed enough he is worth investing in as he can be a core piece as a 6th man or starting 3 if must be.

I would happily do 3 years (no team or player option) at 4-6 million and see where things go. That is a very reasonable price to pay for a young SF who has shown big improvement each of the past 2 years. I think he will be even better this year.

Anyone who wants to let him walk away over a million or 2 extra a year is not seeing the big picture.

Losing Gee opens up another big hole to fill, and creates a situation where we are in free agency overpaying for someone else's trash. I would prefer to just keep our own guy that we know, who has shown he is willing to work hard on his game.

We'll take Lopez..k? Taking Gee wouldn't make me me miserable if we got a hold of Lopez. :chuckles:

at first I was like :) when I saw "NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns..." on the main page

but now I'm like (after clicking and reading the rest of the title)...

of course there are going to be teams interested in signing Gee, he also has a thread dedicated entirely to himself this could have probably been posted in

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

The cavs absolutely have to keep Gee...He is part of the long term and for 4mil a year, i wouldnt hesitate!

The best would be 12mil/3yr with a team option for a fourth year.

4mil might seem like a lot right now, but maybe Gee keeps improving and his contract becomes a bargain in 2 years, you never know! It's not that long of a shot! I'd like gee to avg around 13pts on 45%fg and 35% 3pt with great defense... It's definitely not out of his reach! Give him a real offseason! The dude is on a mission, he worked his way all the way to the nba and aint gonna quit

G-force, cavs for life!

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Yea, I'd gladly take Lopez off their hands if they insisted on poaching Gee.

As far as Gee, see what the market dictates, then decide from there. Sure, the Cavs have alot to spend, but no need
to spend it foolishly. If someone wants to give him 3 at 6 per, then bon voyage, Gee. I agree with whoever said 3years
at 4 per, plus a team option for a fourth. With any luck, he'll be a nice contributor off the bench by that time.
