Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I really don't feel that Bynum fits the mold of the type of player that Grant is looking for or building this team with. He just seems to play when he feels like it rather than all the time. I feel the same way about him as I do with Dwight. On the right team with the appropriate amount of talent, they can be Championship quality but I don't think that either of them really possess the type of will to win that can lead a team to that level. He's a legitimate big man talent which is hard to find but I'd rather just stay the course to be honest. We may be in the dumps another season or two because of it but I don't see him staying healthy and I don't like his attitude thus far in his career.

Acquiring Bynum would be somewhat reminiscent of when the Cavs traded for Shawn Kemp in the late 90's. Kemp, when properly motivated, was a beast. Ditto Bynum. My concern is what happens on a losing club, as he would likely be on here in Cleveland, at least initially. Does he remain motivated? Does he continue to struggle with injuries??

Unfortunately, I could see Bynum go in the tank in Cleveland, similar to the way Shawn Kemp did. This team is headed in the right direction. I think we need to just stay the course.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

otoh, Bynum is looking for his chance to "be the man", and we can't say whether he'll step up in the role until given the chance. When Bryant missed games for the Lakers, Bynum tended to do just that. And it's not like he needed a great PG to set him up ... lol

I think bynums motivation issues are caused by his environment. Watching Bynum closely it is easy to see why he gets frustrated. To get in perfect position19 out of 20 times only to have Kobe throw up an off balanced jumper with a hand in his face has to be frustrating and make you wonder what is the point. With my running that team the problem will only be exacerbated.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

You would think Terry Pluto would at least read the Coon FAQ if not the actual CBA before writing an article about it. An extension with a trade only adds two years, not three.

His wording was fuzzy enough to not preclude that. If Bynum signed an extension after being traded to the Cavs we would have him locked up for the next 3 seasons.

Anyway, the value of the extra year is a bit nebulous if the player in question has a good shot at staying healthy enough to sign another max deal. And the tradeoffs in risk are numerous:

What if he suffers a career ending injury this season?
What's the optimal age for him to sign his last max deal?

The year to year raises are potentially a bigger deal, because assuming he can keep inking max deals, they're what will limit what he ultimately gets paid.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

What does this mean for the Dwightmare?

Lessens the chance for the Rockets to do something stupid for a one year Dwight rental.

Asik at the price is not an asset.

It changes nothing in terms of us (Rockets) going after Dwight. Morey took into account both RFA signings and Amnesty'd Scola accordingly.

Dwight will not be 100% to start the season after back surgery so we needed a capable starter regardless. and you said Asik at $8 million per (which is his cap hold) isn't an asset? The Bucks traded us a a pick swap for Dalembert who made $9 million last year and this year. Centers are a premium position thus landing that idiot McGee 11 million per and DeAndre Jordan $10 million.

Centers -even high end backup centers- are expensive in the NBA market. I've been saying it for years. I was especially vocal after Zeller was drafted. Some Cavs fans were complaining that the Cavs used three picks on one fringe starter/backup center. I then said to look at the team payrolls around the league. While the Cavs will be paying Zeller around 2 million a season, plenty of teams are going to be paying their backup center over 7 million a season.

One other thing, Rico... when you are on another team's fan message board, you aren't supposed to use "we" to talk about your favorite team. It's bad sports fan etiquette.

So what does it say that the Bulls would rather have Nazr Muhammad?

If a team really wanted Asik, they would've offered a deal. Now they are going to give up a 1st rounder for a guy they could've signed for 9 mil? I don't see how he is much of a game changer in the DH part of the equation. If he turns out to be a productive player with starters minutes, then maybe you got a nice deal.

Forgive me. I just wanted to clarify because when I posted earlier last week some were confused on wether or not I was a Cavaliers fan or a Rockets fan. I like your team and follow them closely on League pass the last two seasons.

No big deal, I just wanted to clarify. If you start throwing around lots of "we"s, people won't know if you are talking about the Rockets or Cavs.

the poison pill $15 million 3rd year really kills teams in the Luxury tax. The bulls would be paying $20 million + in tax by keeping He, Boozer and Noah together in 3 years. If the Rockets didn't include the back loaded year I'm 100% sure they would match Asik's deal.
