Rather than going over OUR assets to give to people (we know how valuable Andy is to a certain degree), I thought about it the other way around:

Which assets or pieces could we get instead.

These could be some of the targets (I used 250+ minutes, 25+ MPG, 10-15+ PER):

Young Pieces:
Al Horford
Wesley Matthews
Rudy Gay
Jason Thompson
Ryan Anderson
Thaddeus Young
Paul George
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Evan Turner

Older Pieces:
Paul Millsap
Al Jefferson

Assets:
Byron Mullens
DeMar DeRozan
Patrick Patterson
Chandler Parsons

This is just going through guys and assuming many are rather untouchable since I had huge expectations for what to get back (that's how the Cavs think). You can include others if you wish and I'll break them down. If you want, you guys can break down the ones we haven't gone over. Have fun!

I think Jason Thompson may be available, I like him and his contract. The Kings also have Aaron Brooks who I think would be an excellent backup PG to Kyrie. I am not sure however, what kind of package it would take to get those guys. Another guy who may be available who I'd love to have back is Andre Miller. Not a great defender but he would also be a terrific back up PG to Kyrie and would fit in really well in Cleveland, Coach Scott would love him I'm sure.

The other guys you listed may be difficult for us to attain, I just think their teams would be looking for too much in return. I think we may make a small move, but I don't see any big trades happening for us, just my opinion though.

Ryan Anderson has an insane contract. He's not a bad player, but I feel he is overpaid. I don't want that here.

I'd really like to make a move for Josh Smith. Can defend any position on the court, rebounds well, and is a beast around the rim. Just tell him he's not allowed to take a jumpshot further than 15 feet from the basket :chuckles:

Josh Smith (Atlanta Hawks)
27 Years Old
8 Years of Experience
Position (Combo Forward)
6 foot 9
225 pounds

Notes:
Generally a healthy player. Averages between 16 and 18 points in 35 minutes. Attempts 16 field goals on 45%. Free throw shooting is sporadic. Streaky. Rebounds well at 8 a game. Fairly decent passer at 3 a game. Above average defense at 1.5 steals, 1.8+ blocks, committing 3 fouls a game. Also turns it over at 3 a game. PER is usually at 18+. Usage rate at over 25%. When playing with good teammates, his win rate is higher (above 10% per 48 minutes). His defensive rating is superior usually below 100.

Where we run into a problem is that his contract is worth 13.2 million. And a 15% trade kicker (like a max contract). He's a free agent at the end of the season. Unless the Hawks want to build a contender (they're rebuilding), it's hard to imagine unless we use our imagination a little. Unless we can do an extend and trade, I don't see how it works out (and he's already hitting his prime, which is a worry since we need 1-2 more years).

That's my best...

From Rabman's list:

Young Pieces:

Al Horford: Pts 16.8, Reb 10.2, Ast 3.2....Do-able trade...but has he even played SF? Tristian would have to go..Logjam with Horford/TT/Zeller

Wesley Matthews: Pts 16.1, Reb 3.1, Ast 2.6...Do-able but at what cost? He wouldn't play off the bench, neither would Waiters

Rudy Gay: Pts 19.0, Reb 6.3, Ast 2.4...Eyes rolling in 3..2..1..Would love to trade for him and sign this guy long term. Good SF, but at what cost?

Jason Thompson: Pts 11.1, Reb 7.5, Ast 1.1..Pass. Probably the last option we'd take. Then again..need depth behind Zeller when Andy goes.

Ryan Anderson: Pts 18.4, Reb 7.7, Ast 1.2...Probably won't happen..he'd be heading to a team that has a bigger need for him.

Thaddeus Young: Pts 15.2, Reb 7.2, Ast 1.3...Another guy I'd love to have if we don't get RG. Knows how to play SF well, even if he is currently PF.

Paul George: Pts 15.4, Reb 6.7, Ast 3.5...Probably would want George before Young. Kid can play and is still young. Would rather him at SG though. No go.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: Pts 11.0, Reb 6.3, Ast 1.9..Can't ever see this happen. PIPEDREAM..I wish though. Would be nice..

Evan Turner: Pts 15.0, Reb 7.1, Ast 4.1..REALLY intriguing, however..I don't see a reason why the Sixers would trade Turner? There isn't a logjam, he seems content of playing there...why?

Older Pieces:

Paul Millsap: Pts 15.0, Reb 8.3, Ast 2.6..HUGE logjam, probably easier to get a trade done with these two.

Al Jefferson: Pts 17.2, Reb 10.7, Ast 1.9..Currently injured with back spasms. Older of the two (month apart). HUGE logjam in Utah, may be older options..but probably an easier trade situation.

Assets:

Byron Mullens: Pts 11.9, Reb 7.7, Ast 1.2...would have a better shot at Mullens than MKG, pass.

DeMar DeRozan: Pts 18.5, Reb 5.0, Ast 1.9...I can't see DeRozan being traded if Calderon gets traded to the Lakers..they don't have anyone after Lowry.

Patrick Patterson: Pts 13.4, Reb 4.9, Ast 1.4...A sleeper trade but would rather have Patterson than Parsons if it got down to it. Wouldn't cost too much.

Chandler Parsons: Pts 15.6, Reb 6.5, Ast 3.5...Not one of my top wants, but ehh..if it happens, it happens.
=================================================================================================
So, with these players Rabman was kind to list..I am going to put them into tiers in two different categories: One that I want and the other what would likely happen:

My guessing:

Tier 1(The "want" group)
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Evan Turner
Rudy Gay
Thaddeus Young
Paul George

Tier 2 (The "meh" group)
Al Horford
Wesley Matthews
Ryan Anderson
Paul Millsap
Al Jefferson
DeMar DeRozan
Patrick Patterson
Chandler Parsons

Tier 3 (The "Please God No!" group)
Byron Mullens
Jason Thompson
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What will more than likely happen:

Tier 1 (Plan A: Likely options)
Paul Millsap
Al Jefferson
Byron Mullens
Jason Thompson

Tier 2 (Plan B: So/So options)
Wesley Matthews
Ryan Anderson
DeMar DeRozan
Patrick Patterson
Chandler Parsons
Al Horford

Tier 3 (Plan C: Long-shot options)
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Thaddeus Young
Evan Turner
Rudy Gay
Paul George

Ryan Anderson has an insane contract. He's not a bad player, but I feel he is overpaid. I don't want that here.
lol i'm sorry but you're just wrong.

a 24yo pf who scores at a v high efficiency and is one of the best 3pt shooters in the entire league is easily worth the $8-9M a year he will be earning for the duration fo his contract

for that same reason, he also won't be available.

as far as op goes, all the good options would probably have too high an asking price. the rest aren't worth it given the status of the cavs.

if the cavs give up anything of value for the "likely" list i will choke someone. especially if it's for bj mullens.

That's the point of this list. It's not to determine HOW MANY we'll get. It's WHAT types of players we'll get with Andy/Boobie/Walton. If we got 2 or 3 of the likely players plus picks, won't that look nicer?

but most of those players aren't attainable (anderson, george, gilchrist, gay) or wouldn't make sense from the opposing team's perspective in a deal for av/boobie/etc (horford, matthews, young, millsap, jefferson, etc).

the ones like mullens or thompson....meh. neither of those teams really have much use for anything on the cavs, much less enough use to add some sort of incentive (pick, whatev) on top of the player they're sending.

I would put Harrison Barnes on that list. Draymond Green is getting key minutes over Barnes already. He has lost a bunch of weight and he has a high BB IQ. I think the warriors would move him for the right pieces.

I think ferry keeps horford and smith. too bad we didnt get Ivan out of the d league.

Anyone think we will get anything for Walton's or Gibson's expiring contract? And when is the trading deadline?

Can we add first round picks to the asset list?

Wouldn't mind adding a couple more of them for taking on some salary, and I think they could become valuable as we continue to construct the roster in future years. It seems like a fair bet that we're not going to wade too far into the Free Agent pool, and we'll look towards the draft and trades to upgrade the roster.
