Hackers target Westboro Baptist Church after Newtown threat

As part of a campaign dubbed #OpWestBoro, KY Anonymous said yesterday it posted the personal information belonging to members of the extremist organization, which is best known for conducting protests designed to disrupt the funerals of members of the military killed in action. The data dump included the names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and physical addresses of dozens of alleged members of the religious organization. The group did not indicate where or how it acquired the data

Awesome.

Discuss these douchebags.

Fight the good fight everybody.....

We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred. We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social factions which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming.

Talk about fear. This is good fear.

In a related action, a petition has been posted to WhiteHouse.org asking President Obama to have Westboro Baptist Church legally recognized as a hate group. Posted Friday, the petition already has more than 46,000 signatures, nearly twice the number needed for it to attract the president's attention. The petition states:

"Their actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation."

.

Have the hackers crossed an ethical line? This religious nut group erased any ethical restraints long ago. Unfortunately this will not change their opinions or intentions.

I suppose I should have read before I made my vote.

They're hackers. Most of what they do is unethical.

That said, I can't say I feel too bad about them exposing the personal information of a group like Westboro.

Maybe I should have asked if they returned from crossing the line? :)

illegal? yes. ethical? yes.

illegal? yes. ethical? yes.

Very true. Should something that's ethical be considered law? What I'm implying is, should we consider this act legal? Honestly, I love this kind of stuff. While most others would just sit around and bitch and complain about how we should go about banning guns or not (including myself) these guys are doing something about their situation.

Do I really hope someone does harm to these assholes? No. But I do hope that the hate they spew can be eliminated from...whether that be via fear from good people, new laws classifying these people as ASSHOLES and allowing police to escort them away from anything they are protesting (or use appropriate force).

I think you misread my post. I said Westboro erased ethical restraints long ago.... (or rather, when I said "religious nut group" I was referring to the Westboro idiots.)

you shouldn't even need to recognize someone as a hate group to prevent them from protesting at a funeral. If there's any time a person is entitled to complete privacy, it's when they are grieving their loss.

What is this going to do? Some nutjobs are going to go attack these idiots at their homes, or what? You're only going to embolden them and that is unethical anyways, so we shouldn't want that. I understand the need to lash out at people like this but hate breeds hate. When will people realize that...

It's probably wrong of me to hope that someone burns their filthy, incestuous church to the ground and then pisses on the ashes, but...
