On a team with Waiters and Irving, do we need another player whose strength is creating his own shot?

I guess this is the question of this draft. I'm just not sold on a top five pick that may not be much better than a FA acquisition, now or five years from now. i realize this is speculation but thats all we have at this point.

This is one of the most important skills in the game of basketball imo, even more so when the player has proven to be a wiling passer as it not only creates for them but for their teammates as well.

Also Porter would enable half court sets that started with him in point forward role allowing KI and DW to play off ball at the same time a few times a game.

Most players aren't great at everything. If we have a choice between a player whose greatest strength is creating his own shot and a player whose greatest strength is other skills like rebounding, or defense, or finishing shots around the basket, with our current team I think the latter choice is better. Small forward is supposed to be a jack of all trades type position. Lebron James, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Shane Battier, Gerald Wallace, Nicolas Batum, Grand Hill, etc., were/are multi-skilled players capable of doing many things on the court. Porter fits exactly that mold and is exactly what this team needs with the young players we already have in place.

There have been many big man busts but I can't recall too many SF busts who came out of a college with a diverse skill set and were drafted in the top 5. I think it is a very safe pick and a good pick given our current team. While he may not turn into a superstar, this is a draft devoid of superstar talent anyways.

I think his lack of defense will prevent him from being atop the Cavs board. Like his shooting ability though.

I agree but what I like about him is his ability to dribble, pass and most of all see the open man and get the ball there. Defense is something MB can teach.

And a quick side note, I'd rather have a more than competent offensive player with defensive needs. It is easier, at least back in the day when I played, and yes those wooden crates were harder to swish, to teach defense. I've always believed offensive skills were a greater gift and with MB being a great defensive mind give me guys with high offensive floors.

They didnt meet with Dion last year either did they?

no big deal here, if they are interested he will come to Cleveland for a workout.

Who did Dion meet with, out of curiosity?

If I recall, he only met with two or three teams before he was shut down. I think Phoenix and Toronto were two of them, but it has been a while and I don't care enough to look it up.

The difference here is that Porter has not been shut down, at least from what I've read. So either the Cavs aren't interested in drafting him at all or they feel they already know enough about him that they don't need to interview.

Is it possible that the Cavs could interview Porter after this weekend, or is it not likely that they interview him if we don't do it this weekend?

I mean, I'm sure it's possible, but why wouldn't we just schedule an interview during the Combine? Our front office guys are there and so is Porter. Seems easy enough.

Grant seems to put a lot of weight on the words of people that are close to the players and the scouting years in advance, maybe it doesn't actually matter to him if he interviews the player himself, it obviously didn't for Dion. Maybe this is just a really weird smokescreen. :p

I hear that his floor is Luol Deng and his ceiling is LeBron James. Maybe everyone on here is watching highlights and college games that I missed but every time I watched him I was very underwhelmed. Not to sound like a troll but I just find it funny how everyone on here is all sold on drafting Porter with people even saying that they would rather have him over Noel. Please post some videos and times in the videos where you are impressed because I am not seeing much.
