Let me kick off the 2016 Fantasy Football season by declaring a rule change leagues should make:

Get rid of kickers (maybe defenses too).

These two spots on a roster are usually the last two choices made for each team and are the most unpredictable and least skill-based positions on a ff roster. I saw follow DraftKings and just eliminate the spots altogether.

Instead of a kicker, add another flex to each starting lineup. Reward the better talent evaluaters in each league.

Or, combine the Defense and kicker into one spot. You want Gostkowski? You have to start NE defense too. You want Seattle D? You have to start their kicker too.

I dunno...just waiting for FF season to really kick in.

I'd like to see all leagues adopt this change: you can get 0-2 W/L points a week for the standings. You do this by winning your matchup or by being in the top half of points scored. For example, you get a point if you finish in the top 6 of points scored regardless of winning your head to head matchup.

Another example: If you win your matchup scoring the 8th most points scored in your 12 team league you would go 1-1 for the week. You get a point for your H2H win but lose a point for failing to score in the top half of your league.

This seems like a great way to ensure the best teams in your league make the playoffs. It also doesn't penalize those teams as harshly in mathchups that have the 1st and 2nd highest scoring teams going against one another.

I can dig that. Anything that favors the better owners.

Taking kickers out of the game is like taking the DH out of baseball.

You fucking savages make me sick..

Why would you ever wanna reward skill when you can blame a loss on the luck of a kicker.

Jesus.. I'm offended

I'm actually thinking about holding a pre draft rules committee this year. Just another excuse to get leaguemates interacting, drink a few beers and propose how I run the league. I'm letting my leaguemates know they can submit rule changes they would like to see enacted. Everyone who attends the meeting gets a vote on the rule.

My scoring rule above will be one of them.
I'm thinking about switching up roster construction and having it broken down by the following:
1 QB
1RB
1 WR
1 TE
3 (W/R/T)
D/ST
K
5-6 bench spots

I've thought about throwing in First Downs instead of PPR
Adding in bonuses for 100+yards or 300+ yards passing (obviously not a new wrinkle)
Weekly prizes
End of the year Awards Ceremony (Trophy, participation medals, etc)

Outside of the message board for the leauge, how do you guys have people interact in your leagues?

Do you use software like Whatsapp for a group thread, have you guys created a FB page for your league? (I don't use FB so this idea sucks for me lol). I have a league I run in rally with a couple different circles of friends but I'm trying to get everyone more involved this year. Any ideas would be appreciated!

End of the year awards are fun (minus participation trophies) and something we do in my keeper league as well. Here are some ideas for you:

Matt Millen award: goes to the league's worst owner/GM
Tom Brady award: goes to owner with the best draft pick from a value standpoint
Jim Brown award: goes to the owner with the best player
Reggie White award: goes to the owner with the best FA pickup
Curly Lambeau award: goes to the owner with the best keeper
Curtis Painter award: goes to the owner with the worst keeper

What site do you use? NFL.com has a great setup for league interaction. There's a message board that your members can comment on, there's options to create customized articles (one of the guy's in our league goes a MMQB sort of thing after each week to recap that weekend's matchups and do power rankings, etc.), you can do customized polls, it keeps track of your league history (records, statistics, lineups), and if it's a keeper/dynasty league that you run with the same group every year it gives you the option of trading draft picks.

We do have a FB page for our league, but that's hardly used once the season starts... we mainly just interact off the league site. Also, if your league consists of a group of close friends you talk to regularly, like ours is, group text chats are always convenient.

I've been wanting to switch my league from yahoo to NFL.com for years.

NFL.com is some GOAT level shit. But I've had this league for 11 years and all the league history is on yahoo so I've kept it there.

I keep an excel spreadsheet with all league records and such. It's pretty fun to look back on old seasons. We all started playing in this league when we were ~12 lol

Ya, it's tough getting people to move off of Yahoo/ESPN. I loved NFL, I ran a league on there for one season.

I think I'm going to try to do a MMQB type thing this year too.

Thanks for award ideas @TheLand1287, I chose the participation award mostly because the guys in my league will know it's a troll job insulting them for finishing last.

Same situation entirely. We all started together around the same age, and the core group (6-8 of us) have remained strong over the years into our late 20's. We started on CBS back before it became a pay only site, then switched to NFL.com in 2010. Sucks losing all those stats and records from like 2002-2009. Especially when about half of those seasons were our college years... so not many of us remember shit :chuckle:

NFL.com really is awesome though if you ever decide to make the switch. It's all so customizable. Really makes me wonder why people still use ESPN.com as their go to. It doesn't even compare.

Usually I'll do 2-3 additional leagues also with old college friends and coworkers, but starting this year I'm thinking of only sticking with the one keeper/dynasty league with my close friends on NFL.com and devote the rest of my time to trying DFS.

I think you have to have at least 2 required starters at RB and WR. It balances out the whole draft and reflects a regular football lineup better.

Make sure you have an actual constitution. Write everything down. Make amendments. That way, there is no confusion as to what rules exist.

As the current RBF/RCF champion, I will make myself available to be your leagues' commissioner if needed.
