*Before this season, the last time they scored 43+ in a quarter was in November 2010.

*It's the 15th win in a row when they score 43+ in a quarter and they are now 17-2 overall when they accomplish this.

*It's the 3rd time they've scored 43+ in a quarter while holding their opponent to 20 or less (Jan 2010, Jan 2008)

*It's the 1st time any team has scored 43+ in a quarter while holding the opposition to 20 or less since December 2015, when Golden State did it.

Half and Half:

*The Cavaliers held Orlando to 47 2nd half points. It's just the 19th time they've held an opponent to 47 or less 2nd half points.

*The 14 times they've done it this season is the most times they've accomplished this since '79-80, when they did it 15 times.

*The Cavs also scored 33 in the 3rd quarter, which means they put up 71 between the 2nd & 3rd quarters

*It's the 30th time in franchise history they have done that and the 3rd time they've done so this season.

*They have now won 19 games in a row when scoring 70+ between the 2nd & 3rd quarters (they haven't lost in that circumstance since Jan '88) and they are now 26-4 overall when they do so.

Love Opening Game:

*Love finished with 15/11 with a 3ptM

*It's his 79th game of 15/10 with 1+ 3ptM since '14-15, most in the NBA.

*Love posted his 8th consecutive double-double, tied for the 2nd most consecutive games with a double double for the Cavs since '83-84 (Andy had 10 in row in '12-13)

*This was Love's 99th game since '14-15 with 10/10 and 1+ 3ptM. Nobody else has more than 76 such games.

*It's also his 268th career such game. Only Dirk (283) has more since '83-84.

New Guy on Opening Night:

3pt Blues:

The fewer three point attempts is the math problem I alluded to when I discussed the issue with the Wade, Rose back court. Historically that's a problem with both guys (teams taking less threes with them out there) and for some reason we thought it would be a good idea to put them together. It played out exactly how a lot of thought it would.

Part of that should be corrected when IT takes over for Rose in the starting lineup as he will definitely take and make more threes per game than Rose

I think/hope some of it will also sort out as the overall comfort level between a lot of new players increases week by week(but again, needing IT in for Rose)

Also, I didn't think the 3's Love, Crowder, and LeBron took were particularly difficult or highly contested, but they went a combined 3/14. I didn't perceive those results to be a byproduct of bad spacing, just an off night from three players who will each shoot somewhere between 33-38% for the season. Up that to 5 or 6 makes(which is not unreasonable) and you're talking about a totally different game. Then sub in IT to that mix in the starting lineup and I think the number and quality of 3Ps from the starting lineup should be fine.

10/20/17 @ Milwaukee:

I'm Love-in' it:

*Love went for 17/12/6 against the Bucks

*He becomes the 6th Cav to put up such a stat line more than once (LeBron, Daugherty, Nance, Kemp, Boozer)

*Love also added 2 Blocks. The 17/12/6/2 stat line has now been accomplished by 6 Cavaliers (LeBron 15, Daugherty 2, Nance 1, Harper 1, Hughes 1)

Free-Fallin':

*The Cavs went 17-17 from the stripe, their most FTA without a miss in a game since 12/17/87 (22 FTA)

*It's the 4th most FTA in a game in Cavs history without a miss

*It was just the 17th game in Cavs history in which they haven't missed a FT, no matter how many attempts

Another one for the King:

*LeBron had just another day in the office: 24/5/8

*It's the 242nd such game in his career, most in NBA history and 95 ahead of the #2 player (Magic)

*It's his 622nd career 20/5/5 game, most all-time. Nobody else has more than 378 such games.

3 ball, every pocket:

*Kyle Korver drilled 5 triples off the bench for the Cavs, the 4th time he has done so as a Cav

*Only Jumaine Jones (5), Boobie Gibson (5), and Damon Jones (11) have done it more in Cavs history

*He hit his 5 triples on just 6 attempts, the 10th time a Cav has hit 5 3's off the bench in 6 or fewer attempts and the 1st time since Boobie Gibson did it in 2008

*Korver's 17 points came in just 19 minutes. He's the 1st Cav since C.J Miles in '13 to drill 17 points in less than 20 minutes off the bench and the 17th Cavalier overall to do it.

10/24/17 vs Chicago:

It's the King's World:
*LeBron had another "ho-hum" performance, with 34 points & 13 assists, his 61st career 30 point/10 assist game, most in NBA history

*It's the 8th time he's put up at least 34 points/13 assists. Only Magic (10) and Harden (9) have more

*He also added 3 steals. It's his 18th career game of 30/10/3. Only CP3 (21), Iverson (23), and MJ (24) have more

*It's LeBron's 399th career game of 30+ points. Only Kareem (429), Kobe (431), Malone (435), and MJ (562) have more

*It's also his 583rd game of 7+ assists, 11th most all-time (Stockton, Kidd, Jackson, Nash, Paul, Payton, Miller, Thomas, Strickland, Magic)

All you need is Love:
*Love finished with 20 & 12, the 51st time he's put up 20p/10r as a Cavalier, 6th in Cavs history

*He put up that 20/12 in just 29 minutes, the 14th such instance in Cavalier history. Love is responsible for 3 of them.

*Love also drilled 3 triples. The 20/12/3 3ptM in less than 30 minutes stat line is the 3rd time he's done it in his career. It's the 16th time it's been done in NBA history.

*The last time any non-Kevin Love player in the league has put up 20/12 with 3 3ptM was January 2013 (Ilyasova)

Bench Bunch:
*Jeff Green went off for 16 points on 4-6 shooting.

-It's the first time since Ramon Sessions in January '11 in which a bench player had 16+ points in 6 or less shots

*Korver drilled 3 3's, the 20th time he's made 3+ triples off the bench as a Cav.

-Only Danny Ferry, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, and Boobie Gibson have more such games

*Wade delivered 11/3/4 with 1 steal & 1 block in just 19 minutes of action

-It's the first time a bench player has put up such a stat line with 0 3ptA and less than 2 TO since Ramon Sessions did it, also with the Cavs, in 2010

Since you're on vaca and wanting to crunch numbers, can you provide some Alcindor numbers from this point till retirement? An average per season or something, so a calculation can be made on what LBJ needs to average over 4, 5, 6 or 7 seasons to pass him?

Thank you in advance my man!

I'll take this by bullet-points:

*Kareem would go on to score 8,027 more points from this point (in terms of games played) through the rest of his career in 439 games (18.3 ppg).

*Kareem scored 6,860 points in the 5 full seasons after this point (1,372 points per season)

*The Cavs have 22 more games to go this season. He probably won't, but for argument's sake, let's say Bron plays all of them. And let's say he averages 25 ppg through the rest of the season.

*That would give Bron an additional 550 points. That would give us, through 1,143 career games:

Bron 30,937^
Kareem 30,872

*That would leave Bron 7,450 points behind Kareem heading into next season.
_________________

Going off of those numbers, we have this:

Through the following full season at this point, Kareem had 33,262 points in 1,249 games.

That would mean, over the following 106 games following this season, LeBron would need to score 2,325 points in order to keep pace with Kareem (that's an average of 21.9 ppg).
_________________

Following the 2nd full season after this point, Kareem had 35,108 points in 1,328 games.

That would mean, over the course of the following 185 games, Bron would need to score 4,171 points in order to keep pace (average of 22.5 ppg).
_________________

Following the 3rd full season after this point, Kareem had 36,474 points in 1,406 games.

That would mean, over the course of the following 263 games, Bron would need to score 5,537 points in order to keep pace (21.1 ppg).
________________

Following the 4th full season after this point, Kareem had 37,639 in 1,486 games.

That would mean, over the course of the following 343 games, Bron would need to score 6,702 points in order to keep pace (19.5 ppg)

If Bron were to average 21.8 ppg over the course of those 343 games, he'd break the record here.
______________

Following the 5th full season after this point, Kareem had (and finished with) 38,387 in 1,560 games.

That would mean, over the course of the following 417 games, Bron would need to score 7,450 points in order to keep pace (17.9 ppg).
____________

Here, I'll break it down by the number of more seasons LeBron plays:

3: Would need to average 30.3 points over the course of 3 full 82-game seasons

4: Would need to average 1,862.5 points per season. He's scored less points than that 3 times in his career (rookie season, lockout season, and 14-15, when he played only 69 games).

That would work out to:

-22.7 ppg over the course of 4 full 82-game seasons

-24.8 ppg if he plays 75 games per season (300 games total)

-26.6 ppg if he plays 70 games per season (280 games total)

5: Would need to average 1,490 points per season. He's never scored less than 1,654. That works out to:

-18.6 ppg he plays 80 games per season (400 games total)

-19.9 ppg if he plays 75 games per season (375 games total)

-21.3 ppg if he plays 70 games per season (350 games total)

*(^ = in order to just keep pace with Kareem through this season, Bron has to average 22.0 ppg the rest of the season)*
_____________

Hope this answers it well enough.

Is this regular season scoring only?

Yes. He would take the regular+playoffs throne even sooner since he's already the playoff leader and may very well take this newly energized team to the goddamn Finals again.

*(^ = in order to just keep pace with Kareem through this season, Bron has to average 22.0 ppg the rest of the season)*
_____________

Hope this answers it well enough.

Kareem scored exactly 8k more points, LeBron is at 30,387 points, Kareem finished with 38,387

From this point in terms of games played, not in terms of points scored. My bad. Clarified in the post.

That makes sense.

One thing working in LeBron's adavantage is Kareem played 4 years of college and had to play until he was 41/42 to play his 20 seasons. LeBron will be 37/38 in his 20th season. Kareem's production didn't really start falling until he was 39/40. At 38/39 Kareem was still a top 5 MVP candidate.

My goal for LeBron has always been 40k. If LeBron can age as well as Kareem did, and stay healthy, 40k is within reach.
