WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So would all the fans going psycho over this unknown product. I personally hope he goes back to ufc.

It’s basically a WCW situation, lead by Cody Rhodes and young bucks. The jags owners are financing it. He’s worth a lot more then Vince. They’re talking benefits for the wrestlers and less work load.

Perfect combination of proper financing and legit stars in the Bucks, Cody, and (we'll likely get it confirmed tomorrow) Omega. Plus Jericho obviously. If they get Lesnar to sign on, that's fucking huge.

Yeah they just need some young up and comers too. Biggest issue with wcw is they never pushed their own talent, despite them being good.

WCW's problem was that they did a lot of the things WWE is doing now. They had a bloated roster filled with guaranteed contracts that were way too high. Then they only pushed guys like Hogan and Nash that were on the decline rather than focusing on building up guys like Jericho.

Agree on all points here.

WWE talent pool has never been deeper than it was a few months ago. Writing sucks, its the same guys at the top & guys get gassed. Just look at the talent leaving or rumored to leave:

Ambrose
The Revival
Itami (huge missed opportunity here)
Ziggler
I heard Owens was considering walking before he signed that 5 year deal
Adam Cole is being wasted
Womens division is being wasted. Becky is hot as shit now, but there is a lot of talent just floating around.

So much missed content. Sack up and add a web based show with deeper storylines for mid to low level guys. Make 205 mean something. Shuffle it up & give some people time off. Dont just keep them off TV bc you are pissed or you have nothing for them.

Side note: Does anyone else think this is the year to have women main event WM? Becky vs Rhonda would be fantastic.

Fairly certain that's the plan, although there's a 100% chance that Vince will shoehorn Charlotte into the match as well even though she's not needed.

Adam Cole is being wasted?

Undisputed Era is one of the best things going.

Yeah, he's been in plenty of big matches, and was the first NA Champion in NXT. Sure, he lost the belt to Ricochet, but there's no shame in losing to a guy like that. Ricochet is amazing (see: that fucking Gargano match). I think Cole will eventually be the NXT champ, provided he doesn't get called up before he has a chance to win it. My money would be on him eventually being the guy to take it from Gargano after Gargano inevitably takes it from Ciampa.

You wanna talk about a guy being wasted, look at Chris Hero. Dude was one of the best wrestlers in the world like two years ago and now he's jobbing in NXT.

That’s because Hogan and others had creative control in his contract, which is a terrible idea.

I’m well aware why WCW failed. WWE is the wrecking machine though and quite frankly they still don’t have to step their game up until they’re even competing with someone. I don’t even know if AEW will be ready for that right away or if they plan on having their show on a different night. It used to be where raw was their premier show and smack down was the secondary. Now it’s not always like that as they have their 3 rosters (raw smackdown and NXT). WWE is still failing on pushing guys that should be pushed.

The 3 hour raw show is a lot to write and it’s not the easiest.

Meh.

You can pretty much throw poor booking and the inability to come up with fresh ideas out the window when you’re flush with cash like the WWE is.

WCW’s biggest problem at it’s core was that the business model was significantly different than it is now and ultimately they spent more than they made. If they existed today and had a 2.25 billion dollar television contract and were getting 30-40M *per shot* from Saudi Arabia to run a glorified house show, it wouldn’t matter if they had old guys/part time guys on top and terrible creative. WWE has those exact “problems” right now and they’re going to make more money in the next five years than they’ve ever made at any other point in their company history. They’re almost too big to fail at this point.

The wrestling business has changed a ton in the last 4-5 years. It’s not at all a house show or PPV business at all anymore. The one thing WWE has going for it is the fact that, despite it being scripted, it’s proven over the years to be very similar to live sports in the respect that it’s mostly DVR proof.

No one likes to watch pro wrestling later on tape once the results are out there.

Sounds like AEW is not only going to get Kenny Omega, but Pentagon and Fenix as well. That's huge for them. Pentagon and Fenix are the two best Mexican wrestlers in the world right now (shout out to Almas as well, even if he'll be wasted on the WWE main roster) and are both wildly over everywhere they go.
