Cavs looking at S&T for Johnson, Bosh

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
None of those guys are coming to Cleveland if LeBron doesn't re-sign...this isn't exactly ground breaking news, so why are we excited? We should have had this mentality since the end of the season. Is Ric Bucher our savior? :chuckles:

I think this argument is kind of mute. I would think they would come to lebron before they turn down such offer, based upon that, making their decision. It's not like they wont entertain the thought. And i'm sure if Lebron gave them his word upon returning if they sign off on it, such a deal could happen.

This "all your eggs in one basket" approach really worries me. I hope that this doesnt blow up in our face.

We're one of the only teams legitimately in the LBJ sweepstakes who has anything of value to offer Toronto for CB4. Miami and Chicago have pretty much blew the whole thing up. Unless Chi offers Rose, I don't see it happening and Miami is pretty bare already.

Houston has some young big men, expiring contracts (if they are willing to trade Battier) and those Knicks picks they hornswaggled to make a good offer for Bosh.

There is only one team that could, in reality, give two out of the big three the most possible money. That's us (I'm not including Atlanta or Toronto because they don't seem keen on chasing these guys). Like some have you said, Chicago and Miami have limited trade assets in addition to the fact that Bosh and Johnson have more leverage and essentially force their way to Cleveland. Nobody is beating down the door for Michael Beasley and Taj Gibson/Johnson aren't really wowing anyone with their production or potential at this point. Neither of those teams would be willing to take on Turkoglu, Calderon, Bibby, etc.

I'm curious as to what some of you think the plausibility of getting both would be. I understand that the odds for even one of those guys are low, but I do think we have the assests considering our ability to absorb bad contracts. Clearing the books for rebuilding teams is key. We know Toronto would suck without Bosh, but I worry that Atlanta would be satisfied with the treadmill of mediocrity.

I didn't even consider Houston... I did, however, forget to mention that there is going to be an inevitable "Knicks are the favorite" surge at least one more time before this is all said and done.

Chris Broussard on Mike and Mike yapping about how much of a long shot this is, etc etc..

If middle aged men with a tan that resembles an oompa Looompa and blonde hair is anybody's savior remind me to punch you...oh yeah, not to mention he never gets anything right...nothing earth shattering here at all...when LeBron re-signs than I will get excited

People keep saying nothing can happen until LeBron re-signs. Am I seriously the only person who thinks these two things can brew simultaneously? Hey LeBron, if you want me in Ctown..I'll request an S&T there...Okay Chris, yeah, I'll re-sign if you do that...Sounds like we got a deal...Aight peace.

No way I'm the only one.

That's the only way it happens for us. LeBron goes on his free agency tour and at the same time is telling Bosh he should force a trade to the Cavs.

Joe Johnson? No thanks. He will get overpaid no matter who signs him. Not to mention he had a pretty bad playoff series this past year and was even booed at home. No. Bosh is a must and will actually be worth his paycheck. Joe Johnson would just be a glorified role player that is getting paid tons of cash.

I'm with you. That's the only way it will happen. Cavs tell Lebron we'll get anyone here he wants, just pick. He says Bosh. Cavs tell Bosh that Lebron will re-sign here if he demands a trade here. Toronto has to trade with us or risk getting nothing. We trade for Bosh, Lebron re-signs. One can't happen without the other being agreed to. Bosh won't ask for a trade here without Lebron agreeing to sign here....and vice versa.

Never thought they'd do anything last night. Only way the Cavs improve is through trades and Lebron re-signing. I think they are keeping all their ammo available until they meet with him and find out what he wants. Basically they will tell him to pick who he wants to play with...and who he wants to coach. It's really the Cavs only play at this point. If he leaves they'll go in a completely different direction. So there's no point in doing anything until they meet with him and get his thoughts after free agency starts. Only thing Grant can do for the next week is start laying the groundwork for potential trades.

I don't think it's quite that way though, Cm. That conversation goes a little more like this.

Lebron: Hey Chris, I am re-signing in Cleveland.
Bosh: Okay Lebron. Lemme handle this. BRIIIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!

Yeah. Kinda like that.

I just finished putting together a thread that talks about this concept of sign and trade. The one thing I don't think is mentioned is how much more money each of these guys get if they sign and trade. It's an opportunity for them to get their cake and eat it to. Their city or choice, their teammate of choice, and the true max amount they can get. Why wouldn't Labron and his guys make that happen?

I believe Labron knows a) not all 5 of them are going to be able to play on the same team even 3 of them at Miami is bad for the league and he wants the league to do well. b) if he gets bosh here we are just as close if not closer to a championship then the Knicks, Heat or Bulls if he truly wants to win now and long term he stays but... bring someone with him.
