I know his glory days have come and gone, but it would still be fun to watch him play for the Tribe. He has always been a class act.

Source: Damon close to signing with Indians

By Jon Star / MLB.com
Veteran outfielder Johnny Damon is close to finding a home with the Cleveland Indians, according to a source.

The terms of the agreement, which was first reported on Wednesday by MLB Network and FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, have not yet been disclosed.

Damon's eventual destination had been a subject of much speculation throughout the offseason and during Spring Training. The 38-year-old was tied to rumors with the Yankees and others clubs during the winter, but no agreement ever materialized.

Damon will be suiting up for his fourth team in four years after hitting .261 with 16 home runs and 73 RBIs with the Rays in 2011. He returns to the American League Central, having played with the Tigers in 2010.

Damon remains in pursuit of 3,000 hits. He sits at 2,723 with a .286 career average, 231 home runs, 1,120 RBIs and 404 stolen bases.

Thank Christ that someone competent enough will be in left field. Shame Smash Duncan won't play much.

They need a guy who has some speed and can get on base. Damon does that. It doesn't hurt that he can be a plug-in in the outfield because Shelly Duncan is a slug on the bases.

I wish we could dump Sizemore now....Damon is an upgrade over him

One of my favorite players in baseball. Loving this move.

All reward type signing. No risk at all.

Meh. Whatever.

Slightly above average player. I'd rather he replace Brantley though. No reason to get rid of Damon when Grady comes back to keep playing Brantley's worthless ass.

I realize Duncan is a limited player - but he seems to provide similar offense to what Damon will bring.

The black holes are at CF and 1B.

How about this? Duncan at first and Damon in left. Kotchman can come in and flash his golden glove in the 9th inning....It won't happen but it would the best case.

Boy, you really hate Kotchman. :chuckles:

I agree with this - but don't see Acta actually doing it.

I'm also worried this will cost Lopez his roster spot since Cunningham is needed as the back-up CF.

Yesterday's lineup vs a lefty makes me question how creative Acta is going to get with that lineup.

Idnains GM Antonetti: While we continue to explore oppurtunites to improve the team, we haven't ageed to sign or trade for anyone
Bastian

Doesn't sound like it is official yet.

Of course Slime Ball Antonetti would say that.
