2012 NBA Free Agents

http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-nba-free-agents

Here we list the 2012 class position by position, followed by their 2011-12 salary. Also, there is the status of the free agent (unrestricted or restricted) and whether or not their free agency is dependent on any kind of option. Players marked with an asterisk are not on rookie scale contracts (for former first-round picks) but are eligible for restricted free agency as a player with three years or less of NBA experience. Players finishing their rookie scale contracts are marked as restricted until decided otherwise and their Qualifying Offer is listed. Teams needed to officially issue that Offer by June 30, 2012, to make the player restricted.

For a more detailed explanation of restricted free agency, check out the NBA Salary Cap FAQ.

Lastly, these players are roughly sorted in value, with the presumed most desirable player at the top of each list. Players who play multiple positions are listed where they play most often.

Definition of Options

Player Option – The decision is up to the player. If he invokes the option by June 30th, he is under contract for one more season. If he does nothing, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Team Option – The decision is up to the team. If the team invokes the option by June 30th, the player is under contract for one more season. If the team does nothing, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent (if the player has three years or less of experience, the team can still then issue him a Qualifying Offer and make him restricted, but this scenario is unlikely).

Early Termination Option – Slightly different from the Player Option, but the decision is up to the player. If he invokes the option by June 30th, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. If he does nothing, he is under contract for the duration of the original deal.

Right now these are the people i like and think they wouldn't cost to much:

Brandon Rush, Golden State Warriors – $3.0 million – Restricted ($4.1 million Qualifying Offer) [even tho restricted, is a back up to the new Klay toy so i dont think GSW will want to pay him much]
Marco Belinelli, New Orleans Hornets – $3.4 million – Unrestricted

Ersan Ilyasova, Milwaukee Bucks – $2.5 million – Unrestricted
Nic Batum, Portland Trail Blazers – $2.2 million – Restricted ($3.2 million Qualifying Offer) [yes this is my super unrealistic dream]

Omer Asik, Chicago Bulls – $1.9 million – Unrestricted*
Ian Mahinmi, Dallas Mavericks – $0.9 million – Unrestricted

Too many players on the list that are going to get way overpaid. Ill pass on free agency this year, sign cheap vets, scrubs.

Wouldn't mind taking a look at Daniel orton

I expect us to make a pretty decent trade with out assortment of extra picks.

doubt Boston lets Jeff Green go, otherwise I might be interested

One player to take off that list is Beno Udrih; he exercised his player option yesterday.

with the Cavs losing Sessions, AP retiring and Jamison publicly announcing he won't be back, that leaves the often injured Boobie Gibson and AV , who everyone wants to trade, as the remaining veteran presence on this team. . . not really qualifying Luke walton

you can't surround Kyrie and TT with a bevy of former Dleaguers and up to 3-4 rookies and expect continual growth.

as much as Jamison and AP have been maligned here , they aided in Kyrie's development

we are going to NEED to replace them for thsi team to get to the next level

Gilbert has shown he will spend the money to get the team back to being competitive

outside of the 14million in amnestied money going to baron Davis, the Cavs only have 28 million in committed salary counting against the 50+ million salary cap.

I think in looking at the list below , one must look and see if there is a pieces we can look at moving forward w/ Kyrie, TT and whomever our 1st rounders are

Omir Asik is a player the Cavs have been rumored to have interest in , while Brandon rush is someone others here have mentioned

Both would be great builiding blocks beside Kyrie and TT, however we are still lacking another REAL vet

I personally like Ersan Ilyasova, but I see Milwaukee going all out to keep him

Marco Bellinelli, Jodi Meeks and CJ MIles are other players I could see developing alongside Kyrie

I see our primary need is for another bringing in another veteran backcourt player

the three options that jump out for me are

Ray Allen - don't know if he is returning to the Celts or if he would want to play for a non-contender, its a dream on a short contract, but I don't see it happening
Andre Miller - andre has been around and I would love him to finish his career in Cleveland, could he start with Kyrie in the same backcourt
Kirk Hinrich - he played the 2 late last year in Atlanta, is a great perimeter defneder and still has some gas in the tank, no pun intended

Gerald Wallace opted out. The nets traded their lottery pick (top 3 protected) for Wallace, and he opts out a few weeks later.

btw: is there a list somewhere of players expected to be amnestied?

I kind of like Nick Young if we cannot land Beal or Lamb in the draft.

Brandon Rush and Carl Landry are two guys I would look at depending on who we draft. Both should get reasonable contracts and would be top tier "role players" for us. I know Landry doesn't really feel a need, but I would like him as the 1st big off the bench. He plays hard and is just a solid player.

I wonder what type of offer the Knicks will make to Landry Fields, given that he didn't perform nearly as well this year in his changed role and Shumpert took over his starting job by the end of the year (though Shumpert is now injured). Rebounds, plays well off the ball. If he shows he can hit spot up 3s the way he did his rookie year, he'd potentially pair well alongside a more athletic 3 (say, MKG). Also, he is still young (turns 24 this summer), compared with Brandon Rush who turns 27. No idea what the Cavs think of him, since they didn't have a draft pick in 2010 when he was drafted in the second round by the Knicks. By the way, Hoopsworld site is rather confused on Field's status. Since he isn't a former first round pick, he isn't on the rookie scale contract, but he is in fact an RFA. Larry Coon describes his (and Jeremy Lin's) situation well here: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7583558/nba-how-new-york-knicks-keep-jeremy-lin Upshot is that Knicks, by using their Early Bird Rights, can likely match any offer made to Fields.

Wouldn't mind taking a look at Daniel orton

I 2nd this.

Barely gets minutes with the Magic (could be getting time in playoffs, I haven't watched the magic get) , I think he has potential.

All guys I wouldn't mind depending on the price...
