Daniel Gibson: Thug Angel

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

When's the last time Boobie really had a good season? Seem like he's been hurt or in a slump for as long as I can remember.

2007 ECF Game 6 is the last time Daniel Gibson existed.

Ok not literally but the guy just isn't consistent enough and getting older won't help him get better either, he's much more suited for a contender than a rebuilding team so I wouldn't mind if he was moved.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

And he ate shit in the 3pt contest a couple years ago. :)

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I just can't see how a d-league player and a fringe combo guard creates such depth that we can ship out Boobie. I appreciate his loyalty and I can remember back when we were clamoring for outside shooting so badly we drafted Luke and traded for Jiri. On that thought alone I can't stomach trading Gibson for less than a ransom.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I love Boobie, but same as Varejao, if we can get good value out of trading him then it's worth it

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

He's young enough that he could be a key player on our bench if/when we're contending in 3+ years. I won't cry if he's moved, but I don't mind having him around here for the long-haul. The kid can shoot the basketball and defend well despite his size. He also loves our city and has been through great times and bad times with us and now we're headed back towards great times.

I'm pretty much indifferent, but we shouldn't trade him just to make a trade.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I suppose the key is whether the Cavs intend to extend him, and how much he's asking.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

If only he was a foot taller, we would have a center who wants to play here and we wouldn't have to worry about that position anymore. :(

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

you can never have too many spot up shooters

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Gibson has value as a shooter, defender, and has partially guaranteed contract until January. He's got some value in the trade market.

Gibson will likely get some attractive offers from contenders in the off season that will be hard to pass up, especially if he falls down in the rotation here. It doesn't make sense to keep him here until he leaves for nothing.

So like what happened with Sessions last summer, it seem very possible that he'll get traded this year. I think it's more likely that it's going to happen later in the season than before camp. Later in the season is when teams start tossing all their chips in or folding and going home. Gibson's contract could help teams in either situation.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Gibson had the past two seasons to emerge in a larger role... and he kind of fell flat. He's proven to be a good 8th-10th man in a rotation on a good team, and a good 8th -10th man on a bad team. His role as shooting specialist who defends guards off the bench is pretty much set in stone.

I agree with Douglar and Ben. The way I see Boobie getting traded is if a contender gets smashed with injuries and they need a proven commodity who won't wilt under pressure. If a team needs a veteran guard off the bench who still has tread on the tires, the Cavs might get something of value in return. It happened with Sessions, somehow. Let's just wait and see if a Lakers-caliber team is in the same situation this season.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

If you can get some decent value for him, do it. But all the talk about Scot being the only veteran guard that Kyrie and this team needs, that's a load of crap. If Kyrie takes a breather, Pargo, Sloan nor Waiters will be able to run this team in such a way that helps players develop and get better. Nor can Scott. And you need that, tanking or no tanking. So if they trade him, they may need to pick up an Earl Boykins/Derek Fisher type of player.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Someone is going to need a religious presence on Twitter heading into the playoffs as they try to get on the good side of the big Jeez. Gibson can be that guy, he's likely going to be hurt by then so the team accepting the trade has to be alright with that.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Boobie is a great trade piece because of his non guaranteed contract. Couple that with our cap space, and we could absorb a long term contract for Boobie, and the other team would save money this season, and next season because they can waive him.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I thought his value to another team was the 2m buyout on a 5m contract more than his playing . Can save alot by buying him out if a team is going to have to pay tax.

This rumor seems more like speculation than fact. Nowhere in the original quote did it say Grant wanted to get rid of Gibson, it just said teams have had some level of contact about him. I'm sure Grant has had "some level of contact" about every player on the Cavs except Kyrie, but obviously not every trade discussed comes to fruition. There's no logical reason to move him as the Cavs have the most cap room in the league anyway and there are most likely cheaper shootings specialists available for contenders. I'm never been to Cleveland but from what I can tell Gibson has been a strong presence in the community and has been mentoring the young players. Why give that up for the 30th pick in the draft?
