2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rap should have their own HOF....country has their own and you dont see any country people going into the rock and roll HOF

I cant believe Boston, Journey, ELO and Rush arent in....ridiculous

Boston probably isn't in because their lead singer committed suicide the day before he was going to get married.

So is Nirvana not gonna get in because their lead singer was a heroin addict and committed suicide?

ELO is my second favorite band behind Led Zeppelin. I'm pumped that this many people love them.

I don't like KISS just like any other male that's under the age of 40 but they still should be in the HOF. They must have pissed off whoever is in charge of nominations just like how any other HOF works.

I think you can find many MANY people out there under 40 that like KISS, myself included.

At least, the old KISS, with Ace and the boys, not the new KISS.

Nirvana isn't eligible until next year. You have to be 25 years removed from your first album.

Good discussion in here. I'm for all of the bands mentioned and agree on the rap thing. Just wanted to throw in another little bit of love for ELO. The movie Xanadu might be one of the worst movies ever made, but for people my age the haunting soundtrack by ELO mixed with the stupid hotness of a young Olivia Newton John are just unforgettable. This video just screams 1980. Enjoy.

(Damn if I could time travel I would first go back to 1980 and pound the living shit out of Olivia Newton John. Then I would try to save the world or something.)

So no rap but people are cool with Prince, the Supremes, Neil Diamond, Sex Pistols, Isley Brothers, etc? If you look at the list you’ll see that not even half of it is what we think rock n roll is. Bunch of groups are hybrids of different types of music. Are the Beach Boys and AC/DC the same type of music? What about Hendrix and the Mamas and the Papas? They already have plenty of inductees that would generally be classified under soul, jazz or blues.

I think they included rap because it’s become obvious that the Hall that has already inducted all types of music… so why ostracize only rap?

I think Nirvana is just overrated. Cobain was a heroin addict and took a shotgun to the head, what the hell is there to like about that? If Cobain didn't kill himself people wouldn't call them one of the greatest bands of all time, or Smells like Teen Spirit one of the greatest songs ever. Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains came out around the same time and if you have a conversation about grunge people will go straight to Nirvana. In this country if you die even after some success, people just cherish you. James Dean was in 3 movies, people love him. Jimi Hendrix although best guitar player of all time, put out 3 albums while he was alive.

I agree with the majority of your post. Album sales always shoot up when an artist dies. I don't think you can throw Nirvana in there though... that band was really effing good and deserves the lion's share of its accolades.

skip to 3:30 and listen to the rest. If in any way Prince doesn't belong in the rock and roll hall of fame, they should just shut the whole thing down.

Rock n Roll was born BECAUSE soul, blues, and jazz came before it. So, that's cool with me that some of these other acts have gotten in.
