After an impressive 1986 rookie year as the Los Angeles Raiders’ running back, Napoleon McCallum left the NFL to serve a five-year commitment in the navy. He returned to the Raiders in 1990, but his career ended on opening night in 1994. In a Monday-night marquee matchup between the Raiders and 49ers, McCallum’s cleat got stuck in the ground as he was tackled. As a result, his left leg twisted in nearly every gruesome direction imaginable. He suffered a ruptured artery in his left knee, three torn ligaments, extensive nerve damage, while he also suffered the agonizing pain of having his calf and hamstring muscles ripped from the bone. Now, that’s a gruesome sports injury

I thought livingstons was the worst until I looked this up.

I have decided that I am not going to look at any of the recent videos. Nor, am I going to look at any new ones that eventually follow in this thread. I think the old adage that you can't unsee what you have already seen is so true. I believe I am the only one who mentioned the injury to Bobby Valentine in 1973. I mentioned it because I simply can never get the images out of my head when bad sports injuries are mentioned. I didn't see it live, nor did I see video of it. Didn't have Youtube back then. But, the pictures that were shown in one of the sporting magazines were pretty gruesome. Basically when he went up for the catch at the wall, his cleats caught in the fence and tarp. As he fell backwards, his shin gave way and his leg bent backwards in the middle of the shin area. I looked like he suddenly had a new knee joint in the middle of that shin. That's the way it bent back as his body fell to the ground. His foot still attached to the fence.

As I have said, I have never been able to get rid of that image, nor a number of other ones. So, I think I'll be prudent about any more of these images.

Surprised this isn't in here already. Might not be the worst I've seen live, that honor goes to McGahee, but it's pretty gruesome.

Wasn't the first time a NASCAR driver died and it wasn't the last.

It actually was the last in NASCAR....someone died in ARCA later that year but no one has died in NASCAR since Dale

Ok, there's a new one that easily goes to the top of my list. Kevin Ware's injury is the most gruesome injury i've ever seen. The freakin' bone is sticking out of his leg. Feel bad for the guy. :thumbdown

Video in the link below. Warning, it's graphic (i don't think i have to say it). And there are images arount the internet that clearly show the bone outside of the leg. My god

Fuck me dead that was not fun to watch.

One photo floating around shows his left leg bone sticking out, but he injured his right leg. I'm obviously not going to post it here but it supposedly shows him on a stretcher with some doctors around and people with cell phone cameras.
