2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
MLBtraderumors.com did their offseason preview for the Tribe. I won't post the whole thing as some of it is redundant, but a few highlights:

- He guesses Antonetti will have somewhere between $10-15 M to add to the payroll
- He thinks the Indians will only be looking at short-term contracts due to the amount of money they have tied up in 2015 and 2016 plus salary increases coming for Kluber, Allen, and Carrasco in 2015 and Shaw and Chisenhall in 2016.
- He sees 3B, RF, and DH as possibilities to upgrade, as most do
- Some free agents he tosses around - Colby Rasmus, Corey Hart, Kendrys Morales, Pat Neshek, Jason Grilli, Sergio Romo, and Joba Chamberlain
- Mentions Juan Uribe, Casey McGehee, Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, Gerardo Parra, and Shane Victorino as possible trade candidates.
- Says the Indians may view this as their chance to take the Division with Scherzer likely leaving Detroit and Shields likely leaving KC

I like the idea of Sergio Romo. He's had a bit of a down year but he's an experienced reliever with closing experience and, more importantly, big game experience. Crockett/Romo/Shaw/Allen would be tough to beat.

None of the free agent hitters excited me. Justin Upton would be a great add but he'd be a one year rental and he has the Indians on his no trade list. Jason Heyward would be another great addition but would be another one year rental. Victorino would be interesting - he shouldn't cost much in terms of prospects and the Indians were linked to him before.

Romo will get overpaid, someone will look at him with World Series experience and throw too much money at him. I'd like him too but don't see it.

Why would the Braves even look at trading Heyward?

Things I like about the offseason thus far:

Kipnis dieting and starting his offseason strength and conditioning program already.

Things I don't like about the offseason thus far:

Swisher on TV having a jolly good time. Does he have an off button? Does he just mainline RedBull? Oh, and I hope he's bringing his own rehabilitation specialist on the road with him....

Nothing with the Indians, but - Joe Maddon is close to a deal to become Cubs manager. Other outlets are saying deal is done.

Look for the Cubs to be spenders now in FA.

Gets one of the best managers in the game out of the AL. Win for the Indians.

Agree on Kipnis - I forget who said it (I think Pluto) but someone reported recently that he was trying to add too much muscle.

As for Swisher, I don't see the big deal with what he's doing. He's an entertaining guy and I'm sure it's not affecting his rehab. Next season he better be at the World Series in uniform though :)

I was annoyed by the Swisher stuff before he came here. Thought it was all for show. But man, that dude is just ON all the time. It's crazy. I'd hate to hang out with him, but watching him on my team is fun (well, if he were playing better.)

A few good bullpen options I'd like the Indians to get involved with:

Luke Hochevar
Joba Chamberlain
Mike Adams
Pat Neshek
Burke Badenhop (Ohio native)

Starting pitchers who will garner Indians interest:

Gavin Floyd
Justin Masterson

Masterson has been an "every other year" kind of guy. I'd really love this team to try to get him on a one year deal, but I feel like somebody is going to overpay.

I've always been a fan of Mike Adams. He's battled injuries the last two seasons and isn't getting any younger but when he is on the mound, he's usually pretty darn good. I'd love to see him in a Tribe uniform. I also like Neshek quite a bit.

Didn't see it anywhere else but Aviles is back, as expected.

Blue Jays trade Adam Lind to Milwaukee for Marco Estrada

MLBTradeRumors has their predictions out for the top 50 free agents. Here are the Central-related picks:

Max Scherzer - New York
James Shields - Red Sox
Victor Martinez - White Sox
Andrew Miller - Tigers
Justin Masterson - Cubs
Colby Rasmus - White Sox
Jason Hammel - Twins
Luke Gregerson - White Sox
Torii Hunter - Rangers
AJ Burnett - Royals
Nori Aoki - Reds
Billy Butler - Mariners
Brett Anderson - Twins

They don't have the Indians signing anyone in the top 50, but they do list the Indians as possible fits for Aramis Ramirez, Michael Morse, Alex Rios, Torii Hunter, and Billy Butler.
