Windhorst Radio Show & Updates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here's a recap:
  • Most optimistic he's been all season. Positive signs all over the place. Expects to see more games like the Wizards game going forward.

  • Likes that Lebron is getting to the line. That's a sign you are getting the best out of him. Lebron has quit on the team a couple times this season because he was disappointed in his teammates. Lebron seems to have decided that he needs to control the game going forward for this team to work. Kyrie has to wait to chuck jumpers until Lebron is on the bench. This is a strong step forward for the team, but they still need to get Love involved more. This Cavs team has more talent around Lebron than Lebron had in Miami.

  • Impressed with Kyrie's work on defense, responding to the challenge put down from the coach and Lebron. While Mike Brown was able to get the team defense to improve, he was never able to get Kyrie to buy in. That was probably Mike Brown's biggest failure last season. But getting young players to unlearn bad habits is hard, and he's glad to see improvement here. Takes a completely different mind set to play good defense.

  • Thinks Dion is frustrated and is still not meshing well with Kyrie. Teams are doing research on Waiters, as if they are expecting him to become available in trades. Expect more trade rumors.

  • Demarcus Cousins isn't going to get traded to the Cavs, and would not fit well here if he was traded. Cavs will keep looking for big men though. Lots of good free agent Centers available next summer.

  • Cavs might perform better if Blatt used more consistent rotations. Most NBA players don't like experimental changes to the rotation during games. Blatt has been settling down a bit, but he has a history going deep into his bench in the first half, so constant rotations might not be Blatt's style.

  • Toronto & Memphis have been a surprise so far but he's not sure if they have enough dependable scoring to be great in the playoffs. Thinks they are still behind Goldenstate on the contender list.

  • Kirilenko & Mozgov have a good relationship with Blatt, but Cavs would not sign Kirilenko unless he was signed as a min salary free agent after a buy-out.

  • Realignment won't happen if it makes it harder for the Knicks or the Celts to get to the playoffs. NBA realignment could happen if the realignment reduces travel. Thinks the Bucks will move to Seattle in a couple years and that will start a realignment that moves Memphis to the East.

  • Predicts that Marion will go back to the bench and Mike Miller to move into the starting lineup. Biran says that Miller might look bad in November, but "Give up on Miller at your own peril. He makes big shots."

- Most encouraged he's been about Cavs all year

- Kyrie playing with effort on defense

- Blatt is settling in; his rotations are better

- Still need to get more out of Love

- LeBron has decided he will control the ball rather than Kyrie. And it's working

- Kyrie still working to change bad habits he learned from playing with a losing team

- Dion has not fully embraced his role yet

- Cavs dream scenario with center position is to get one of the big names who will be available in the upcoming summer

- Blatt used to playing a lot of guys (using a large rotation of players) in Europe. Once he gets into more of a steady rotation, the bench will probably produce better

- Cavs should only look at Kirilenko if he's basically for free (veteran minimum deal)

- Mike Miller will likely be named the starting shooting guard shortly

I'm very skeptical about Miller.
He hasn't played the last two games which have happened to be blowout wins and suddenly he's going to be starting? The defense is just starting to gel and throwing in a poor defensive player right now into more minutes doesn't make much sense

I disagree with the LeBron losing explosiveness due to aging comment....I witnessed him throwin down quite a few sky flying dunks at St V St M gym not much more than a month ago...

Always great to hear. You think he's just playing it conservative Sandusky? I'm sure if he did that everyday it might inflame his back, but people are acting like it's actually gone from his repertoire, like he's actually too old and he's lost his hops.

It's so early in the season, he literally couldn't play in the finals because of fatigue. Bron is wise now, even though we all want to see him go head high with the goal and tear the fuckin rim off.

I love it. Blatt seems less concerned about wins right now and more concerned about figuring out who can and can't play. See if you can get Miller going and if you can't, move on before it's too late.

One point Windy made that I found interesting in this week's show was about how Kyrie is basically playing the role we expected Dion to play -- the offensive sparkplug for the bench players. When Lebron is out Kyrie looks to get his and make up for lost time, so he becomes a major gunner. Watching the Indiana game now and you can see that dynamic of Lebron and Kyrie taking turns on offense with KI turning it up when Lebron is out. It's kind of working for us.

  • Huge praise for Kyrie and his defense
  • Talked about Andy starting taking offense away from Love
  • Stephen A still isn't sold on the Cavs yet, doesn't like Kevin Love says he's a question mark
  • Windy said the Heat were boring to cover but the Cavs are really exciting to watch or cover
  • Stephen A ripped on Cleveland saying he misses South Beach, blah blah blah (even though they chanted his name when Sports Center was in CLE)
  • Everyone agreed Lebron was dogging it and now is trying harder and leading
  • Stupid talk about Lebron not doing the chalk toss again
  • Windy thinks Lebron and Kyrie will clash as this moves along and the marriage won't last forever (doesn't give a ton of reasoning why)
  • Windy does like Kyrie chucking and scoring when Lebron sits.
  • Windy emphasized Kyrie signed with Cavs thinking this would be his team going forward
  • All three guys agreed Lebron is now the true point guard of the team and demands ball control
  • Windy doesn't think Lebron listens to or cares about David Blatt's success. Thinks Lebron doesn't care who the coach is and has not bonded to him.
  • Windy said Lebron has made it clear he wants to play for a guy who's played in the league.
  • Windy says the Cavs are moving in the right direction but wouldn't commit to them winning the east this year

So let me guess Windy, Lebron wouldn't want to play for Pop since he never played in the leauge?

Yeah thats a pretty solid straw man... You're either indirectly comparing Blatt to Pop (ludicrous for obvious reasons), or implying that Windy was speaking to the following question (he wasn't):

Would Lebron rather play for:
A) A head coach who was a former player
B) Any other head coach in the league regardless of experience/championship pedigree

So let me guess Windy, Lebron wouldn't want to play for Pop since he never played in the leauge?
Dude, Windy's point was on balance LBJ would rather play for a former player. I am sure if LBJ had the opportunity to play with Jackson or Pop he would pick them.

Sorry for the nitpicking but Jackson is a former NBA player
