Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I might need some help from you guys (esp. @DCunleaded and @David. ) on choosing what weights to do at the meet. Im leaning towards making my first attempt something I can get easily (ie. 315 squat) just so I can get all 3 lifts at least recorded, I would seriously hate to bomb out of my first meet.

I've never done PL meets, but I've helped guys prep for Oly WL meets (three lifts each, pre-set). Since this is your first meet, I would set the first two weights a little more conservative than usual.

1st lift: Something you can do regularly, just to get on the board: Let's say 80% of your 1RM
2nd lift: 90% of your 1RM (next meets, bring this in the 95-99% of 1RM range)
3rd lift: 105% of your 1RM, if not more.

This might change as you do more meets, so just use this for your first meet. Just plan on it being a great day to hit new 1RMs, and not worry about other people. Worse case scenario, you still make good on 2/3 of all your competitive lifts.

As for the Kettlebell stuff....they're awesome; great for conditioning and getting some increased strength. A couple things; learn to snatch, and only do the Russian KB swing (KB only goes a little bit over your head, as opposed to the CF/American KB swing where the KB is completely inverted over your head).

Farting at the gym: let it fly or treat it like a first date and ease them out silently?

I don't know what the deal was this morning, but I was a human trumpet. Ate some quality pizza last night.

It all depends, really.

Hot girls by you? - No.
Ugly girls by you? - Yes.
A huge group of friends by you, you are by yourself & you know they will scream out "What the fuck?" - Maybe.

For me, if people keep taking my benches & I kow they are gonna take a while & I know it's gonna smell like the Mexican market? I let it go.

If I am being nice & it's gonna be a trombone? I go into the bathroom.
If it's gonna be a little high pitched mouse on a motorcycle type fart? I generally let it rip as they don't smell & everyone has earphones in anyhow besides the 60 year old men who pretty much have soiled all the benches already.

fart outside of your squat rack before squatting. farted in my rack once, took my deep breath before taking the weight off the rack, rotten eggs. put the weights down and walked away for a min...suicidal farts are no bueno

gotta lose at least 3 pounds by friday night's weigh in... its easy enough to do, but it still sucks. i wanna eat lol

In all seriousness though, just make a big batch of chili with extra beans.
You'll be full and so will your toilet.

i do love me some fiber. i also need to get into the chili game, good call mang

Ive been eating that Fiber One cereal lately. Stupid small box for $4.50. But 1g of sugar per serving and 55% of your daily fiber in 1/2c.

My body is like the fountain of youth this past month.

Officially weighed in at 177.4lbs, so I'm in the 181 class.

Opening lifts are:
Squat: 320
Bench: 225
Dead: 405
(Or at least as close to those as I could get in kilograms lol)

Heaviest I'm planning on going is 370, 250, 450. I feel really good about those numbers, I can't wait to see what its like at a meet! Old School Iron is fucking sick, all free weights, graffiti decoration, gangsta rap blaring, everyone's got tattoos lol my kinda place

Regarding farts in gym.....Rip said "never shit when you have to deadlift, or deadlift when you have to shit". since shitting and farting are close relatives, I try to be empty before I move a barbell lol.

Had a blast at the Masters Track & Field National Championships last week, in Jacksonville FL. Being from Orlando, the July heat was normal for me, but other guys who traveled took it pretty harshly...to my benefit ;)

Pentathlon: I was 40# heavier than the next biggest guy (250ish, 40yo dad gut but no other visible fat, pretty big legs/chest/arms), which was fine; we started with about 12 guys in my age group. The first event was long jump, which I haven't done in a while; last two jumps were right around 5m, good for 3rd or 4th. Second event was the javelin, which I never threw before. One guy gave me some solid pointers, and I ended up with the 4th longest throw. Third event was the 200m run, and I was pretty scared; these guys looked like sprinters. After a false start by someone to get me relaxed, I was able to have a great start off the blocks when it counted. Nice lane assignment (#5), and I timed my kick perfectly, and I finished 2nd in the event at just under 27sec; the winner was sub24, fucking ree dick for a 40yo non-specialist. Next was the discus, and I just focused on long swings of my arm; another 2nd place for yours truly. Final event was the 1500m, and I was not looking forward to it being the last one after a long ass day. I got 4th with a 6:58 run, and managed to keep the others at bay for a 2nd place finish. Definitely a pleasant surprise!

Shot: Second place as well. I was figuring I might get top three in this one, after researching the other guys in my age group's throws over the year; double silver was better than I could ever expect.

I have spent several drunken nights telling people at bars that I am an all-american pentathlete lol....

Nailed 370 on squat, the Spotters were kinda like "uhhh...does he know that was kinda easy?" Lol my second attempt was at 350 and I was seeing stars hard after it, I wasn't sure I was gonna get 370 but I rode the hype and killed it

I got 225 recorded for bench, I had 250 but I didn't hold it at lock out at the end so it didn't count...stupid on my part :/

Final recorded lifts:
S: 370
B: 225
DL: 470

Really really happy :D

Does anyone have any tips on how to make a cheap weight "device" that I can travel with? I remember seeing a way to make a T-shaped bar out of pipe from home depot and you can attach weights to the bottom of it and do two handed kettlebell things with it (I think it was in The 4 Hour Body).

I'm going on a 12 day road trip next week and my gym is closed this week, I'm not really afraid of losing gainz but more afraid of going insane from not lifting for so long lol
