R.J. Hunter

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It remains to be seen if he can defend NBA guards. He couldn't get dribble penetration in summer league. He often looked winded in Vegas, which isn't a good sign. Kid can shoot, but the Cavaliers likely had reservations about his weaknesses.

I think the Cavaliers had a short list of five or so guys they targeted in the draft as being possible contributors, and they were all gone by their pick. Using the draft to create trade assets in the future like Cedi, Christmas, and the future second rounders seem like added flexibility with those TPEs while Hunter was only valued as a trade asset by teams who wanted a young shooting specialist.

I really like Osman so I understand their thinking process, just don't understand drafting Christmas and then getting rid of him so fast..
I saw they had invited him to practice and were impressed, there are few other players I would have preferred like Jordan Mickey, Richaun Holmes and Harrell.. just mostly because of age since 24 is really old imo.

Here is a look at Mickey View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu-yjOS6ipw

R.J. is can play though but I don't see him getting into the rotation this season anyways when it matters.

Rakeem Christmas doesn't have much to do with RJ Hunter. That #38 pick was the least valuable asset the Cavaliers received in trading their #19 pick for 3 assets. In the end, Griffin was quick to trade him away for another liquid asset for the future.

So I'm guessing you are really asking why the Cavaliers used the draft for multiple lesser valuable future assets instead of one player.

The quickest answer is that multiple liquid assets (a highly valued Euro stash, future picks, the Dwight Powells of the second round) can be used in a few trades while just one drafted player would be less helpful in multiple future trades. With the two TPEs, Griffin has been flipping multiple future assets into a bigger future move, because it worked last season in creating the Mozgov trade. The Cavaliers turned Scotty Hopson's and Alonzo Gee's team options and a few second rounders into what eventually became the Mozgov trade of a larger TPE and conditional picks.
