Justus Sheffield has been $ lately...has dropped his ERA to 3.47 for the year after today's start, was at 4.21 when August began...6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K tonight.

Triston McKenzie looks like the pitcher in Hardball.... If only he'd start singing 'I love it when you call me big papa' on the mound. Can't wait to see what he can do once he fills out....

Columbus:
Tyler Holt extended his hit streak to 6 games (10-23, 2 2B, 1 3B).

Jesus Aguilar hit a 2 run HR (16, 81 RBI). He's walked 6 times, striking out only twice in the past 4 games.

Anthony Gallas clubbed his 4th HR as a Clipper (#16 overall) and is 3-7 in the last 2 games.

Will Roberts tossed 6 innings of 1 run ball (0 ER), allowing just 4 hits with 6 K's (0 BB), lowering his ERA with the Clips to 3.61 in 10 starts.

Giovanni Soto faced 2 hitters. He walked 1 and K'd 1. He hasn't allowed a run over his past 7 appearances, spanning 7.1 innings.

Akron:

Jordan Smith went 1-2 off the bench, extending his modest hit streak to 5 in a row (7-19).

Yandy Diaz with 3 more hits tonight, including 2 doubles (13), pushing his slash line up to .311/.409/.403. He now has 3 multi-hit games in his last 4 games.

Ronny Rodriguez delivered 2 more hits to extend his hit streak to 6 (9-19) and raise his average to .294. He's hitting .333 since July 23.

Louis Head tossed another scoreless inning of work. He's allowed 1 ER over his last 11.2 IP (11 H, 4 BB, 16 K), lowering his ERA from 5.12 to 4.24 over that span.

Lynchburg:

Yhoxian Medina had his 2nd straight multi-hit game (3rd in the past 4 games), going 2-5 with a double (10) & 3 more RBI (5 in the past 2 games, 25 overall). He's 8-16 in the past 4 games.

Dorssys Paulino extended his hit streak to 7 (9-25), knocking in 2 more runs (29 at Lynchburg, 68 overall). His slash line at Lynchburg now sits at .308/.380/.531.

Joe Sever blasted HR #12 (10th at Lynchburg).

Paul Hendrix had 2 hits, including his 2nd double in as many games (22nd overall).

Bobby Ison delivered 2 more hits. After starting 1-15 at Lynchburg, he is now 6 for his last 19.

Ivan Castillo hit his 17th double of the year as part of his 2 hit night, pushing his average back up over .250.

J.P. Feyereisen threw a scoreless inning, lowering his ERA to 3.08 since being promoted. He hasn't allowed a run over his last 7 IP.

Lake County:

Bobby Bradley went 0-3, but drew a walk and has reached base in 21 straight games and in 34 of the past 35 games.

Francisco Mejia drove in the lone Captain run (51 RBI) on a double (13).

Justus Sheffield pitched 2 hit shutout ball over 6.1 IP, walking 2 and striking out 8. It was his 6th straight start allowing 0 or 1 ER. During that time, he has thrown 34 innings, allowing 30 hits & 11 walks with 30 K's. He has a 2.28 ERA in 67 IP since June 12.

Cameron Hill struck out 2 in 1.2 perfect innings, lowering his ERA to 1.61. He hasn't walked a batter while striking out 11 in his last 8.2 IP.

Mahoning Valley:

Ka'ai Tom doubled (14) to push his hit streak to 11.

Mark Mathias had his 2nd straight 2 hit game, driving in 3 (23) and pushing his average up to .277.

Gabriel Mejia went a perfect 4-4 with his 9th double and 19th RBI

Brock Hartson tossed 4 shutout innings. Since his debut game, he has allowed 2 ER in 32 IP (0.56 ERA).

Matt Esparza followed Hartson with 4.2 shutout innings of his own, with 5 K. Last 11 games: 28.1 IP, 0.95 ERA, 37 K

Rookie:

Gian Paul Gonzalez went 1-3 with 2 RBI (7) and is 4-9 in the last 3 games to raise his average to .274.

Jonas Wyatt struck out 6 in 3 scoreless innings and has K'd 20 in 16.2 IP (8 H, 6 BB).

I'm not sure if it's the "only the highlights" information that gets provided or what, but I love our farm system right now.

Wasn't Paulino really highly regarded a couple of years ago?
 
Mike Clevinger with another great outing: 6 scoreless innings with 7 K's bringing his era to 2.8. Would love to see him make a couple starts at Columbus before the end of the season.

He tore up rookie ball, but I don't believe he ever made any top 100 lists or anything. There's potential though.
 
Nellie Rodriguez was named Carolina League MVP and Yandy Diaz was named an end-of-season Eastern League All Star. Hadn't seen those honors mentioned here yet.

Clint Frazier was the only end of season Carolina League All Star who is a top 100 prospect. The top Carolina League pitcher was a 24 year old FA signing. Leading a minor league is usually sign that a team isn't all that interested in promoting said player, since top prospects move up when they do well.
 
Columbus:
Tyler Holt extended his hit streak to 9 (15-36) with a double (15)

Jesus Aguilar had 3 more hits, including HR #17 (83 RBI). He's 11-27 over his past 7 games, with 3 doubles (26), 2 HR, and 6 RBI.

Zach Walters snapped a 1-14 skid with his 8th HR (40 RBI)

Erik Gonzalez has now hit in 7 straight (8-30, 7 RBI)

Michael Choice has hit in 7 of his 8 games as a Clipper, going 10-29 with 4 doubles, 1 HR, and 6 RBI. He has a slash line of .345/.457/.586

Yandy Diaz had just 1 hit (ending a 4 game streak of multi-hit games) and is now 18-44 in the last 12 games, with 7 multi-hit games.

Carlos Moncrieff doubled (9 at Akron) and drove in a run (26) and is 10-30 in his last 8 games, raising his average from .236 to .251

Ronny Rodriguez, over the past week, has hit .462 (12-26) with 4 doubles (13).

Jeremy Lucas added another hit and has gone 14 for his last 42 since July 6, raising his average from .220 to .241

D.J Brown allowed 2 runs (0 ER) over 6 IP and has allowed just 6 ER in 18.1 IP (2.95 ERA) since his promotion.

Louis Head with another scoreless inning of work. He's allowed 1 ER in his last 12.2 innings, striking out 17.

Jeff Johnson tossed a perfect inning and has allowed 1 ER since mid-June (26 G, 25 IP, 9 H, 10 BB, 28 K)

Lake County:
Greg Allen with 2 more base knocks and is 14-42 in the last 11.

Bobby Bradley drove home his 90th run of the year the other night. He's hitting .322 since July 12 (46 G), with 14 HR, 47 RBI, and 10 doubles.

Silento Sayles with his 4th multi-hit game since his promotion (10 G with LC, he is 11-33), going 2-4 with 2 doubles (5) and 3 RBI (4).

Ordomar Valdez broke out of a 1-14 skid by going 3-4 with 2 doubles (10), a triple (1), and 2 RBI (21).

Cameron Hill threw 2 shutout innings, striking out 3, lowering his ERA to 1.55. He's tossed 7.2 straight scoreless innings (2 H, 0 BB, 11 K).

Mahoning Valley:
Ka'ai Tom doubled 3 times (18) as part of yesterday's DH. He's now 17-49 (.347) over his past 12 games, with 10 doubles.

Mark Mathias collected another hit and is hitting .333 in his last 15 games, with 6 doubles (16 overall).

Daniel Salters delivered a base knock, his 8th in the last 4 games. Over that span, he's collected 2 doubles and 5 RBI (7 and 25, respectively, in 165 AB)

Erick Algarin with 2 more scoreless innings and has not allowed a run in 7 IP (3 H, 1 BB, 7 K) since his promotion.

Erik Gonzalez tripled (3rd during the streak, 7th overall between Akron & Columbus) to extend his hit streak to 8 in a row (9-34)

James Ramsay had RBI #39 in his 1st start since 8/22. He also drew a pair of walks (52).

Michael Choice was held hitless for just the second time as a Clipper, but he also walked twice (5) and drove in a run (7 in 32 AB).

Alex Lavisky, in his 1st game back in Columbus from Akron, hit a 3 run HR in 4 trips (2 HR, 4 RBI).

Giovanni Soto retired one of the two men he faced (walking the other). He hasn't allowed a run since 8/8, spanning 8.2 IP.

Akron:
Yhoxian Medina went 2-4 with a double in his 1st game at Akron (promoted from Lynchburg)

Ronny Rodriguez doubled (14) for the 4th time in the past 3 games. He is hitting .433 (13-30) in his last 9 games and .333 since July 25.

Jeremy Lucas extended his hit streak to 8 (9-27) with a double (10).

Jordan Smith homered (5) and drove in 3 (44). He's hit in 7 of his past 8 games, going 9-30 (.300) in that span.

Eric Stamets now has a modest 4 game hit streak (5-16).

Adam Plutko tossed 6 innings of 5 hit ball, allowing just 2 runs with 4 K's (1 walk). He's allowed less than 3 ER in 11 of his 18 Akron starts and less than 4 ER in 15 of those 18 starts.

Lynchburg:
Bobby Ison has hit in 4 straight and, since starting 1-15 at Lynchburg, has gone 11-31 over his past 8 games.

Clint Frazier doubled in his 2nd straight game (34). He's hitting .332 since July 4, with a 29/38 BB/K ratio (35/82 prior to July 4).

Paul Hendrix had another 2 hit game (3rd in past 4 games) and is 7-20 in his last 5.

Mike Papi delivered a 3 hit night, with his 34th double & 42nd RBI.

Sicnarf Loopstok hit a HR (4) and drove in 2 (12) to push his average to .218 at Lynchburg (.731 OPS).

Antonio Romero K'd 5 in 2 scoreless innings and is working on an 8.1 inning scoreless streak.

David Speer tossed his 3rd straight shutout inning since getting promoted.

Lake County:
Greg Allen hit in his 4th straight (6-17) and stole his 43rd base.

Francisco Mejia drove in a run for the 4th game in the last 5 (53 total).

Bobby Bradley doubled (15) and had 2 RBI (92).

Taylor Murphy also doubled (20) to go along with a pair of walks (64).

Steven Patterson has now doubled in 3 of the past 4 games (7) and is 7-22 in his last 6.

Jordan Milbrath allowed just 1 run over 7 IP and has won 4 in a row (23 IP, 21 H, 7 BB, 23 K).

Mahoning Valley:
Ka'ai Tom with 3 more hits, pushing his average up to .301. He's hitting .365 over his last 34 games, with 15 doubles & 21 RBI.

Daniel Salters doubled (8) to extend his hit streak to 5 (10-21, 3 doubles, 6 RBI) to push his average to .290

Austin Fisher doubled (7) as part of his 2 hit night. He's 8 for his last 19 at the plate.

Brock Hartson tossed a scoreless inning. Since allowing 2 runs in his pro debut, he has allowed 2 ER in 33 IP (0.55 ERA)
 
Don't remember who is was that had a history with Matt Esparza, but Mahoning Valley is converting him to a starter and the results have been promising.

42K in 32 IP overall, 17K in 13.1 IP over his first three starts.
