Of course I expect to see him this season, but going with an extreme on the off chance it happens.

Damage control that comes out 2 months before the season begins is worrisome. I obviously don't trust the Cavs to give us the real story, so I'm willing to go out on a limb and call total bullshit on everything we're hearing.

Hey X, I know you were down about this yesterday (and I don't blame you either), but don't you think it now seems like Haynes is the one just full of shit?

I don't bother reading most of his stuff, I didn't bother to read his article yesterday at first. I just read what he said, and it didn't make sense, so I first assumed the Cavs were hiding something.

But now that Windy (I didn't hear him specifically say this) shut down the Jan talks, I think we can now fully assume, Haynes is a dirt bag liar, again.

After reading his entire article yesterday, I already came to the conclusion he's full of shit. None of it made sense, it was put together by an imbecile that's probably not even qualified to cover a local high school sports team.

He'll never play again.

He'll have kids and they'll never play either.
He'll probably suffer some injury when they're born..that nursing room floor is harder than any court he's ever played on..:chuckle:

I long ago considered Haynes to be shit. I don't really read anything NEOMG.

Edit: This is from an unidentified poster southeuclid3 in the comments section of a cleveland.com article which is linked at the top of this post. Just wanted to put that out there as this post may be misleading otherwise...

Keep in mind that all of the major structural parts of KI's knee are solid.....NO damage.......because of the way he plays, they are being extra cautious with his recovery......they want the cartilage on the underside of the kneecap (the articular) to heal w/o any distortions....it has to slide smoothly over the bones of the joint to prevent future problems....

Just to save others the trouble of scrolling way down the articles comments, I'll re-post my comment from last night......

Well....now that the story is finally out....when I brought it up on the 11th, I could not say too much, but now that the word is out......

KI is NOT having any problems w/ the surgery...the bone is healing very nicely and is on schedule.....

the caution comes from the soft tissue strains and their proximity to the kneecap....

Without getting too specific.......much of KI's problems were with tissue around the knee.....not to worry, his MCL, ACL, menisci, etc. are fine.......they are more concerned of too much stress on the articular cartilage and the accelerated wear that can happen if it is rushed too quickly.....

They want to make sure that he heals well and slowly since he is so young...it makes for fewer complications down the road......better safe than sorry......

There is great emphasis on strengthening the quad (which was the big problem for him at the end of last season)....that will further enhance a strong, worry-free recovery.....

The long end of recovery time with such a high physical stress situation as with a professional athlete, especially a PG that moves so quickly in rapid changes of direction is 6 mo recovery time......so expect full out ability (if all goes as planned) by Jan/Feb....right now, he is doing a LOT of pool work.....

They have a lot invested in him and are being very careful....

Questions...?

Team already putting it out there not to expect too much too soon?

Yup, Kyrie just... We got LeBron and Love. They'll have to be our featured two headed monster now. Mo will be starting for sure

Very interesting and insightful post and it illustrates the most important factor in Kyrie's career at this stage. It isn't just about the kneecap healing correctly and on-time and then getting him right back to work. It's not about having enough time to get him in basketball shape.

The most important factor is understanding how and why this (and other) injuries began to plague him so severely just as the playoffs started to heat up. The key thing is to pinpoint the structural makeup of KI's knees and focus on building them to make his style of play sustainable over the course of his (hopefully long) playing career. Hell, he may have to change a couple things about the way he plays with more elbow pullups (ala CB3) and less throwing his body at the biggest guys in the league.

To me, this is so much more important than any single injury or attempting to meet some kind of preliminary timetable for said injury. This is an opportunity for a great team of doctors and specialists to help Kyrie in the long haul... much more important than the first three months of the season.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Windhorst said he received different info on Kyrie. Said they're taking it slow and he'll probably miss the opener, but back before January for sure.

Well allthough it would suck to miss Kyrie for a month or even two.. i do see two things here:

1. We need to take the longterm approach here. We cant risk our 23yo All Stars future for early Season play. Lebron and Love can keep us in the Top 2-3 Seeds in the East until Kyrie is back.

2. It actually could be a blessing in disguise. Mo will get alot early season playing time and can Build chemistry fast. Also Lebron and Love now have the chance to develop the deadly two man game everyone expected last season and we only saw glimpses of.

Overall.. yeah it sucks.. but better have him miss early season time and come back 120% healthy than rush him back and risk him beeing hobbled or out again in the Playoffs.

And while we will miss Kyrie badly Mo is a quality short term replacement and still a dangerous Guard(21/7 with Cha last season) and i doubt it will keep us from still having a top 1-3 Seed in the East by the time Kyrie is back.. we will be fine.

Priorities 1-100 in terms of Kyrie are long term health.

Will be awkward on his return if we crush it without Irving. Distinct possibility since this team is really good and has shown it can win despite injuries.

Then again Lebron will likely be in chill mode so who knows

It appears that Irving just needs some sort of consistent off-season regimen to get his body stronger each year.

With all the options LBJ has sought out and explored over his career to get his body ready (yoga, kinesthetics, etc), you would think these would be easily accessible to Irving now.

we will be the #1 seed with a healthy Kyrie ready for the playoffs...sounds good to me...also it will Love be more productive as well .. hopefully it allows him and LBJ to click on the court
