15th Roster Spot?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd really like to add a PG.

You look at the playoffs and finals the past couple years and backup PGs have had some huge roles.

Guys like JJ Barea in 2011, Norris Cole for the Heat, Patty Mills for the Spurs.

I'd take Farmar or Robinson. Leaning toward Farmar.

Even if it is just to give Delly some competition.
2nd rounder for Mo Williams.

We need a PG but I'd rather give out 10 day contracts to D-Leaguers than sign Robinson or Farmar. Just be patient and see what happens around the trade deadline...if not a trade, someone we might not expect could get bought out and end up being a much better fit for us.

I think we need a big. We won last game, but we heavily relied on TT and Moz for everything inside with Love out.

A big for sure. If we drop J.Jones, a backup pg would be great. I would like Calathes as a cheap backup pg, tall (6'6), pass first pg, excellent in p&r, not a liability in d and costs the Grizzlies something ridiculous like 800k.

We only currently have 14 players on our roster we can sign a back up PG and not have to release anybody.

KLove14 stipulated "a big for sure" (which would take up the 15th spot), meaning the Cavs would need to free up another spot for a PG.

James Jones isn't going anywhere. He's one of Lebron's buddies. He isn't getting cut so we can sign some backup PG or over the hill C.

The irony is that some people -- including MSB, as I recall -- were saying Livingston would be out of the Cavs' price range back in the summer of 2013, and then it turned out that he signed with Brooklyn for the minimum. Meanwhile the Cavs made the ill-fated, cap-clogging signing of Jarrett Jack. If they had just brought back Livingston they would arguable have had a better player and better fit for last year's team and not have Jack's contract to deal with. Another instance of the Cavs overpaying for a commodity (backup PG) that they could have had cheaper....

Anyway, back to Farmar...

Want to say it was pretty widely known, at least around these parts, that Livingston wanted out.

That may be, and he signed with a better team, but it was for the minimum. Would he have signed with the Cavs for more money? We are not talking about a guy who had made a huge amount of money playing basketball and the clock was ticking on his career (By "not a huge amount," I mean in NBA terms; he had made more than $20M by that time).

Anyway, this is sort of beside the point, and the Jack signing was hardly the worst move the Cavs have made in recent years, except that signing Jack to replace Livingston on a cap-burdening contract likely shows the influence of ownership, and ownership is one thing that has remained constant.

A player who was mentioned occasionally upthread:

Jeff Adrien has reached agreement on an extremely lucrative contract with Guangdong of the Chinese Basketball Association, sources told RealGM.

damn, i know we need a backup pg vet but if a team gets mozzie in foul trouble, we get small quick

i think we need a backup big like dalembert ......can he move quicker than haywood now?

One plus about the Cavs recent success is that, if they keep it up, they may have more opportunity to attract a ring-chaser either now, or once players are waived after the trade deadline. The chance to sign with a potentially strong team is the biggest thing they can offer to a potential 15th man, since it looks like they are not going to be offer any new player substantial minutes.

After Griffin's early talk about finding another PG, they have gone almost 2 weeks without signing one. I wonder if they want to see how Shumpert looks before making their next decision.
