#19: Cameron Erving, C/G, Florida State

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I mean, none of us know how Erving will pan out as a pro.

I am with Boobie that this pick has everything to do with Mack.

-It can help with negotiations, or at the very least, the leverage has shifted to a more even playing field.
-It can leave us a replacement for him and allow us to spend $ elsewhere in FA.
-Best Case: our line becomes cohesive and hands-down one of the best in the league and Mack wants to stay. We rely mostly on the running game and by mid-season we have switched to someone other than McCown (hopefully that CSU QB) OR Mack believes that we are simply a QB away from being a playoff team.

So as far as the pick, I don't think anyone outside of the front office has enough details about the situation in its entirety. I don't like the implications, but the draft isn't done yet, and there are always trades.

Maybe the Browns are going to trade Mack. Can kinda see it in lieu of letting him walk for nothing.

Maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick gets it done.

Not with the player opt-out attached to his current contract.

You aren't getting sh-t until he would agree to sign an extension, and this tight window of draft weekend is never going to allow for that possibility.

Thought I saw somewhere they would get a 3rd or 4th compensatory pick for him leaving. If so, just keep him and get all that you can out of him.

Impossible to know that this far in advance, but I can't imagine his salary being among the highest AAV in the league to warrant a third round pick.

Maybe he would do it for the Jaguars. They were the team that hooked him up. He's close to someone there IIRC.

Off the top of my head, the Titans, Colts, and Broncos also have needs at center. Surely Mack and his agent have already formulated a plan of what they want to do after next season.

It would need to be among the highest AAV for ALL AVAILABLE free agents, not just centers.

At $8.4M...Mack would likely be worth a fourth round compensatory pick next season.

If he's eligible for a compensatory pick, I'm not exactly sure how it works with Opt-Out scenarios like his.

One thing to remember if Mack walks we should get a 3rd round compensatory pick. Help make up a bit for the loss, for now we just made our o-line stronger and hope he doesnt walk.

I'd also like an update on Mack's injury. Ready for training camp?

This pick actually makes all the sense in the world, and the guy has a chance to be a Pro Bowler for a long time. No issue here.

For a broken leg I have to imagine he'll be ready for training camp. That's generally an injury that heals pretty well.

I felt like our offensive line was arguably the best in the league prior to Mack's injury last year. Assuming everyone is back healthy and JT is still on top of his game (it won't last forever), Erving could solidify that status. He is the most versatile OL in this draft.

I was a little lukewarm on the pick last night, only because our receiving corps are so weak. But, after researching this guy and doing my due diligence, I'm very impressed with Farmer's decision making.

He is both a great addition and great insurance against FA/injuries/aging.

Not a Browns fan by any means, but this dude got off to a good start going to the Tribe game in a GVartwork shirt tonight.

He is a player that creates depth just by his versatility. Last training camp The browns werent happy with their depth at all as they waived a bunch of offensive linemen and replaced them with other teams cuts.

Dallas had all sorts of Skilled playerd wasnt getting anywhere. drafting lineman in the first round has definitely made an impact. San francisco as well.
They have to be drafted in the first round now as more teams are placing higher and higher value on offensive linemen and the quality of linemen in the 2nd and 3rd round arent the same that they were 20 years ago.

Wide receivers are just as likely to bust as make . running backs sont last very long and quarterbacks are not only not a sure thing but can take years to develop,
