2011 NBA Redraft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs would take Jonas at #4 in a re-draft...100%.

The guy didn't play any more games in the NBA since the draft, so what changed? There's no way Cavs dont take Derrick Williams in the redraft, besides he plays in Minnesota, just by being there the players only play to 50% of their potential.

Nothing has changed.
Many in the Cav's organization regretted not taking Jonas right after the draft...they still regret it today. Centers are so much harder to come by than PF's. We would have had our PG and C positions filled for the next 10+ years with Kyrie/Jonas. PF's are just MUCH easier to find. Not trying to knock TT or saying he isn't going to be a great pro. But filling the C position first would have been a much smarter move for our rebuild. With Jonas playing overseas, we'd probably have a few more losses this year too. It would have been better for us in a lot of ways.

What makes you think Big V can even play nba type of center role.

DRTg really cares about things like blocked shots, steals, and rebounds. It's supposed to include "forced misses" but I'm not sure where BBR would get that stat as they don't seem to track it.

So when you note that Biyombo leads the Bobcats in DRTg, really what you're noting is that per minute he generates a lot of those "defensive" stats compared to his teammates.

But as we know, there's a lot more to playing D. Like Thompson both Kanter and Biyombo have a long way to go.

In the last 2 years I've watched Hickson and Thompson(both under 6'9") start some games at Center for us. I don't think Jonas at 7', 245 lbs and 7'4" wingspan would have any problem playing center. With his size, athleticism, and his ability to shoot/dribble/pass, he's going to be very versatile in the NBA....unfortunately he'll be on the Raptors.

He's an Euro, look at how much trouble Dirk has playing center, same size. While Chuck Hayes at 6'6 plays just fine. It's mostly about strength and being able to box out which is also strength and be willing to be physical and not a bitch. By size only measure Durant should be able to play center and that's just lol.

I was just thinking we needed to re-visit the Jonas discussions.

There you go comparing the two guys just because they're European...

They play completely different games and btw, Jonas is bigger

I'm not going by size only. I'm also going by the 100's of hours the scouts watched the guy and their opinions...and what I've seen myself. Not sure what the Euro thing has to do with anything.

It's the style of play that's being played in Europe that accommodates certain type of players in an environment where they prosper. Which is why you have MVPs in the Europe who are complete bums in the NBA. So yeah, Euro has a lot to do with it.

Please stop, Max. You've got me imagining a world where drafting any of Davis, Drummond, Robinson, Sullinger, Moultrie, and even Perry or Terrence Jones, if it came to that, would make absolute sense without any positional contortions or conceding our most recent #4 pick to be a bench player.

The number of Euro players in the league has been rapidly rising over the years. Off the top of my head there are 8 Euros that are starting in the NBA that can play the C position...that's a pretty high percentage. I have no idea why anyone would consider the fact that a guy is from Europe a negative. There are "american" players that bust every year too. I bet the rate is higher than the Eurpoeans.

Bargnani starting F/C
Pau Gasol starting F/C
Marc Gasol starting C
Marcin Gortat starting C
Luis Scola starting F/C
Nicola Pekovic starting C
Zaza Pachulia starting C
Timofey Mozgov starting C

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
