2011 Tackling: Safeties

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was hammering to make a play for Eric Weddle last year, although I wasn't expecting San Diego to make him the highest paid S in the league. It paid off though, as he made the All-Pro team IIRC. Back to the earlier thought, yes we need a center-fielder/ball hawk/Ed Reed type at FS...he would pair well with Ward. Iloka from Boise State is a thought with one of our 4th round picks...

I really wanted Weddle in the off-season too. The guy would have paired so well with Ward.

I don't know lol... I just feel anytime you ask your Safeties to be able to cover receivers instead stopping the run and breaking up passes other parts of your defense may not be that strong. Because if were looking for Ed Reed we are not going to find him in all likely hood anytime soon. We just have too many wholes on this team to be looking for better players at position's that we already have a couple guys at. While Usama and T.J have their defencies they have not been super terrible and we will probably just have to let them continue to develop. Though i sense we actually mean the same thing as i was kind of being a bit sarcastic. I just feel everything starts with a better pass rush and if you can get that going everything gets a bit easier.. Instead of 5 seconds of coverage your need 4 seconds of coverage.

TJ Ward needs to be our SS, not our FS. I'd like to have a guy who is better in coverage, but I will admit that I apparently have vastly underrated our safeties.

Not enough interceptions by the team as a whole, I'd like our FS to be a ball-hawk. I guess that is why I underrate the safeties on the Browns.

What's the purpose of the SS/FS tag? You could easily just switch the roles.
