If you guys really think having Francona isn't going to make a huge difference then you're out of your damn mind.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread

I'd be down for all those moves....I could see a scenario where a former Red Sox player could come here on a paycut to play

Can't wait to see some legitimacy in this organization. Really stoked about this hiring, never believed it would happen.

Negative Ned.

It's like the Indians are at a lose-lose with fans. They should of hired some no name off the corner.

Perfect hire for the Tribe in Terry Francona. Cleveland actually has two formidable head coaches/managers now with Francona and Byron Scott. Once Shurmdog gets the boot and ends up being the Offensive Quality Control Coach in Philadelphia next season, the Browns will have an opportunity to complete the respectable Cleveland coaches trifecta.

As far as the rest of the Tribe's off-season plans, let's hope that they can at least obtain a couple of legitimate, right-handed bats. Switch-hitter and Ohio native Nick Swisher would be a wonderful addition, but he's going to command as much money as any outfielder not named Josh Hamilton on the market. Guys like Delmon Young, Jonny Gomes and Ryan Ludwick (club option) are all free agents who would look great in left field thoughYoung has been mainly a designated hitter for Detroit. I saw where sgm mentioned Melky Cabrera as a potential fit at left field, and although his character is certainly shoddy, he still would be the best left-fielder this team has had since Coco. Expect for Jimenez's option to be picked up considering how much they gave up for him and how thin this rotation is going forward. But, they're going to need to add a top-of-the-rotation starter either through trade or free agency, and they better not end up reeling in some Derek Lowe type stiff to toe the mound again.

Whoops. My bad, read it totally wrong. My edit button is working proper.

Byron Scott? Respectable? :chuckles:

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

Finally. Cleveland sports teams need to realize a winning culture needs to be set. We've tried to turn guys into winners but it's nice to bring in someone that actually has done it. I don't see why the team wouldn't do something to make a splash. If they wanted that, they would have stuck with Sandy and tried to relive the 90's to bring attendance back.

As for whoever mentioned Brandon McCarthy.. I do like him but is it confirmed that he can pitch again? I assume he can but I haven't read anything.

Everyone at this sports bar are so negative about Francona. These people are really dumb, talking about "now go sign BJ Upton".

If we somehow signed him, who would be mad. He's a power hitter which we need

Just gonna put it on the table that I'd love BJ Upton for the right price.

right, dont wanna overpay the guy....he made 7 million this year. 3 yrs/27 million would be a nice deal for him

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

I think he's going to command alot of money. I wouldn't be shocked if Boston signed him and Hamilton. But I do know he's done in Tampa.
