2012 Baseball Offseason Player Movement Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If the Indians ever get another legit franchise player at a young age like Longoria, do you think we would pay him what Tampa just did or would we trade him?

Yes. See pre-injury Grady Sizemore/Travis Hafner. If Longoria has multiple injuries the Rays will be just as screwed as we were with them.

If they ever had a player willing to take a paycut like Longoria, I see no reason why they wouldn't resign him.

Love Longoria... Can definitely be a cornerstone player to a franchise for a decade....

Nationals Acquire Denard Span

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 29 at 3:31pm CST]

The Nationals announced that they acquired center fielder Denard Span from the Twins for minor league right-hander Alex Meyer. The Twins have confirmed the deal.

Span, 28, provides the Nationals with an established center fielder. His presence will presumably keep Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth in outfield corners. It could also impact the Nationals' interest in Adam LaRoche, since Michael Morse's primary position might now be first base. Alternatively, the Nationals could move Morse to a team seeking offense and continue pursuing LaRoche.

Very nice deal for both teams. Meyers is a stud; Class A, posting a 2.86 ERA with 9.7 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 129 innings.

BJ Upton getting 75 million from Atlanta.

LOLz

Is that was a .758 career OPS is worth?....

Not in my opinion.

Any realistic shot that the Indians show interest in Bourn with the braves locking up BJ?

I know that would be too much of a splash move....But the OF needs a guy...And getting Bourns speed would be fantastic for the lineup.

end of the pipedream

I am real suprised Span went for that little.

Meyers is ok..But from what I saw, he has 2 pitches that he controls...and may have his career be out of the BP...No clue if accurate, But I thought Span held more value then just a high A hopeful.

A lot of the reporters who reacted to the deal thought the Nats gave up too much (should've dealt 2-3 lesser value prospects). Meyer is a highly touted prospect to many organizations.

I'd expect Bourn to get a similarly ridiculous deal for someone with a career OPS just a notch over .700 heading into his decline years as a speed guy.

I could see the Reds being desperate enough to give him the same money.

Angels deal Jordan Walden to Atlanta for Tommy Hanson.

For the life of me I can't figure out what the Braves are doing.

I remember then wanting Grienke during the season...moving money to sign him while giving his former team a reason not to out-pay them?

Braves are out on Greinke from my understanding.

The Dodgers are undoubtedly going to have the highest bid there, but investing 75 million into BJ Upton and then dealing a legit top half of the rotation starter for a bullpen arm is just too puzzling for words.
