2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can we actually discuss the 2012 prospects? Not time machines and not yelling at each other? :chuckles: Cuz I'm actually really interested and haven't educated myself on them yet.

It really all depends which big man we get this year.. If we get Valanciunas then someone like Sullinger, Davis, or even Jones would be one of my main targets... If we get Kanter then a wing scorer would be the top target...

One guy to keep an eye one: Michael Gilchrist... I don't think he's going to be an elite scorer or shooter but he looks to be a solid all-around player and a very good defender... But the main reason why I have my eye on him is that him and Irving are good friends from what I've heard (played in HS together) and bringing in someone who Irving is close with might not be a bad idea if we want to protect our future investment... I'm not saying draft him solely based on having a relationship with Irving, I'm just sayin'...

One of the reasons I've wanted the Cavs to draft him for the last few months (talking about Gilchrist). Same goes for Barnes. Both are friends with Irving. They also both look like they will be damn good basketball players, which is always nice.

Lets not forget about Harrison Barnes who is supposedly close friends with Irving and the Cavs liked before he went back to school.

Perry Jones please.

He posted some underwhelming stats this year at Baylor after being so highly touted out of HS but I watched a few of his games this season, and it seemed like nobody on his team could get a rhythm with Lacedarius Dunn chucking up so many shots. With Dunn out of the picture experts are expecting a lot out of Jones as the #1 option getting more than 10-12 shots per game, although he could be going top 3 if the Bears have a successful season. Both depend on another guy we may want to take a look at, incoming 6'9'' wing Quincy Miller (who has added on another 20lbs according to DX and may be available mid-1st round 2012)

You always take the best player available. except the point guard:cool:

If we get Rivers or Gilchrist I will shit my pants.

Mike also has the heart and soul of a champion. I read an article a while back talking about him suffering an injury in a HS game and telling his coach that he wanted to paly because he wanted to win so badly. If you want to win a championship he is the type of character that you need in the lockerroom. Look at what Haslem has done for the Heat.

I don't get why this is considered a bad question to ponder. I love the "I'm focused on the 2011 draft right now" excuse. Unless you are Chris Grant or under his employ as a scout, what exactly are you focusing on, why does it matter, and is your wife getting sick of you not getting to the lawn? Seriously, the Cavs could very well be in the top 8 of the draft next year, the NBA season could not even happen. Is it silly to speculate on what position the Cavs would need? I don't think so.

I too like Barnes with another year under his belt. Jeremy Lamb was one I was hoping would have come out this year even though he looked raw still he could be a very good NBA player. Austin Rivers could be that 2nd guard in coach Scott's 2 ballhandler system.

it is tough to say who the Cavs will take in the 1st rd but I am positive they take Jeff Taylor in the 2nd

The BPA available to fill positions in need SG and SF? Some young proven NBA talent in a trade for the pick? Lockout?
All the hype is going to be Sullinger, Barnes, Rivers and Gilchrist. Not in any particular order.

If the moon were made of barbeque spare ribs, would you eat it then?

I know I would, and I'd wash it down with a tall, cool Budweiser.

Hey, what's your favorite planet? Mine's the sun. I like it because it's like the king of planets.

I'd call next year's draft a success if we got any of the top SGs, SFs or PFs. I'm waiting to see what kinds of trades we will be doing up until the 2012 draft so that we can maybe gets some lottery pick, which will likely prove challenging due to the alleged depth of the 2012 draft. I'd be stoked if we could get one of the top two SGs (Beal or Rivers) AND one of the top SF/PFs in the 2012 draft. I wonder what deals (if any) are out there where we could package together to get another top 10 pick. We do have quite a few trade assets to work with, so I think it would be difficult, but possible to accomplish. Maybe even the new CBA (if it is even decided by the 2012 draft) will help us in acquiring another pick due to rules that somehow play in our favor. If we got Derrick Williams this year (hopefully along with Kyrie Irving), I wonder how he would affect who we draft in 2012. Would we put him at the 3 and get a 4, or would we put him at the 4 and get a 3? I wonder if, because of his ability to possibly play both positions, we could just get the BPA in either of those two positions when the time came. So many questions left to be answered, but that is the nature of analyzing a 2012 draft when the 2011 draft hasn't even happened yet. What is everyone's favorite SG, SF and PF (the three most loaded positions) in the 2012 draft?

Perry Jones please.
