2012 NFL Draft Day 2 Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bob Holtzman spent too much time this morning perfecting the jew fro to realize it was Blackmon, Floyd, WRIGHT (numerous sources saying we were bummed about missing him), then likely Hill, Randle, and Alshon 'All you can eat' Jeffery.

I want Hill we need a big fast fucking burner that can toast the defense since we have the official red ryder bb gun at QB.

I must commend you, cdt. You are handling this Weeden thing far better than I thought you would. I figured you and b00bie would have followed through on your suicide pact by now.

I thought Alshon was going to be taken high in the first round? What happened? he got that fat??

I still think the Browns can get a RT prospect when they trade up from the 3rd and Colt and draft him.

37 is the spot to get the WR.

Are you saying we are trading up into the 3rd to draft colt? Deja Vu anyone? :chuckles:

What if Hill and Randle are both gone before the Browns pick? I think that Saint Louis definitely takes one of them. If it's Randle, Baltimore is the threat ahead of us to scoop Hill. Do you take Jeffrey or Glenn/Martin at 37?

Glenn is my choice for the offensive line because of his versatility. If Pinkston can also play the G/T spot, you give the overall right side more versatility depending on matchups and scheme.

At this point, I would go Cordy Glenn at #37 and best available WR in the third round (if they can't trade up). Maybe Sanu? I just feel that the Browns made such a huge commitment to their backfield and really need to protect their two first round picks.

However, if Randle/Hill is there at #37, I would also be ok with taking one of them and considering Bobbie Massie or Mike Adams if either fell to the third or low second (assuming the Browns would trade up).

I’m thinking the right tackle is next.
Couple of reasons.

• They really need one.

• What’s the point in drafting a quarterback who will start right away and get beat up as badly as the last one?

• The best wideout still on the board will probably go to Indy at No. 33.

• Cordy Glenn hasn’t been picked yet and could be there as a gigantic bonus at 37.

• Bobby Massie is still there, too, and either he or Glenn should still be there.

OK, that’s several reasons.

Another trade up could be next, as well. We’re guessing that Tom Heckert sat upstairs until the end of the first round thinking he might trade into Round 1. He didn’t go there for a couple of reasons:

• The price wasn’t to his liking when he hung up the phone.

• Plenty of guys with similar grades were still on the Browns’ board.

We haven’t seen Heckert’s board, but we have a sneaking suspicion Glenn and Hill are at the top of it.

Some of the overnight discussions, we’ll surmise, had to do with trading up for Glenn, if it is deemed necessary. We’ll guess the Colts will take the best receiver on their board at 33. Receivers run to taste. It doesn’t have to be Hill.

It might have to be Hill in terms of what the Browns need: Speed.

I don’t know whether Mike Mayock knows his stuff or gets his stuff fed to him because he basically works for the league, no matter how they want to paint NFL Network and nfl.com as independent entities.

Probably it’s a little bit of both.

Mayock knows his stuff. He’s a bright guy with a lot of contacts. He balances forceful opinion with discretion. Plenty of people from around the league scratch his back.

Anyway ...

Twenty-seven of the 32 players drafted last night were in the top 32 on Mayock’s board. Don’t try that at home.

The best players left based on Mayock’s ratings:

• No. 22, Alabama defensive end Courtney Upshaw

• No. 25, Glenn, the Georgia lineman who projects as a Browns right tackle

• No. 26, Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy

• No. 30, Marshall DE Vinny Curry

• No. 32, Hill, the Georgia Tech wideout

• No. 34, Stanford OT Jonathan Martin

• No. 36, Illinois OT Jeff Allen

• No. 37, Midwestern State guard Amini Siolatolu

• No. 38, Stanford TE Coby Fleener

• • •

I could see this happening: Wait for 37 and take Fleener if he falls, grab the best wideout in a deep pool of them at 67, hope against hope right tackle Mitchell Schwartz falls to 100 (or trade up for him), then hope Dick Jauron doesn’t resign.

Whatever the weather, it should be an interesting evening in Berea.

I like Steve's line of thinking here....

Unfortunately, there's about a 95% chance that the Rams take Stephen Hill with the first pick of the 2nd round.

It'll come down to Randle or an O-lineman I think. I like Randle but I really think Hill could be dynamic and wish we had a shot at him...

I thought Alshon was going to be taken high in the first round? What happened? he got that fat??

He didn't put up the same numbers as he did his sophomore year, part of which is due to his quarterback situation, and part of which could have been due to his inability to consistently get separation (poor route running mostly.) Some of it might have been because he was out of shape too I suppose. But you also have to take into account that he had a drunken moron throwing him the ball, then Lattimore went down with a season ending injury in the 5th game, then the drunken moron is kicked off and he has a sophomore QB that hasn't developed a passing game throwing to him. Him being out of shape certainly didn't help, but when you look at South Carolina's season last year, he was their only play maker on offense. That would probably mean opposing teams would plan to do whatever it took to make sure that he didn't single-handedly beat them.

He lost about 20 pounds for the combine, but didn't have enough energy to participate in drills due to his rapid weight loss. His pro day in Columbia looked pretty damn good and he ran in the high 4.4's and low 4.5's, but there is still concern that he will put weight back on and that his 40-time doesn't truly reflect his in-game speed.

Seems like Alshon had quite a few things going against him last season, but if he keeps the gut off, then he will be a damn good possession receiver and red zone threat.

I'd take Randle because I think the tackle depth is better than the WR depth at this point. Randle is also a natural WCO receiver -- good hands, good route runner. I like Hill's potential, but there are too many question marks. I do like his run-blocking ability, though. That is intriguing with T-Rich in the mix.

People don't realize that attaching McCoy to a draft pick actually reduces the value of the pick. It's like Family Guy when Peter tried to buy Roadhouse and the guy was trying to include the Best of Robin Williams.

I have no choice but to put faith in this guy but it just doesn't make sense to me. This is a win right now move. A move where you don't have the time to wait for him to develop for 2-3 years. Which is a contrast to everything that we have done prior to that pick. Everything was building, finding pieces methodically, trading down. No veteran players or free agents to speed up the rebuild or make us more competitive.

Now all of a sudden you take this guy and he's 29 before he plays a game. You don't have the luxury of building slowly around him like Luck, Griffin, or RG3. That's why Winston would have filled a dire need at RT. That's why getting a WR would take pressure off in this draft. It just doesn't make sense and the reason I don't like it is because it seems like a panic move. That 6-10 or 7-9 sounds better than 4-12 despite having a legitimate guy to build around. Had they filled some holes in Free Agency and added some proven veteran help on offense I'm not as mad.

I just feel like this is a team that is going to take a lot of time and Weeden just doesn't have that kind of time. He's more of a fit for the Chiefs who are built to win now. Not the Browns who likely need another draft or two before we're even 8-8 or 9-7.

I expect the #37 pick to be a WR, not a OT... I think the Browns really want to get what they consider a top-tier WR and waiting until their 3rd round pick would likely mean missing out... Meanwhile, I think the depth in the OT class right now means they can afford to pass on one with #37 and still likely get a good one in the 3rd, or even via a trade-up...

It looks like it'll either be Randle or Hill but right now Hill looks like the favorite... I'm a bit worried considering how raw he is, as I do like Randle a lot, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it...

Don't you think the Rams are taking one of those two right off the bat?

EDIT: And Indy or Denver I guess are threats to take a WR..

I'll take the physicality of Randle over any receiver not named Floyd in this draft. I like the idea of lining a guy like Randle up with Little and Ben Watson. Add in Trent Richardson and that's AFC North football the way it was meant to be played.
The O line talent is deep this year, even after Glenn and Massie are off the board. There are plenty of receivers too, but after Hill and Randle are gone, there's going to be a drop off. I'd like to stay pat at 37, but the truth is, if we want Randle, we probably need to move up a few spots.

Browns have the 5th pick in the 2nd round. I ranked the 5 guys I want in order for the pick.

Randle
Massie
Hill
Glenn
Martin

Marvin Jones from Cal is a sleeper for me today. Decent size and speed. While we all talk about Hill and Randle, Jones might be more of a Browns target.
