2012 Offseason: Quarterbacks

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thanks for the predictor post Smooth. My thoughts are validated. It was go all out for Luck/RG3, and pass on the rest of this QB class. Better off developing McCoy. Now I'm still game for bringing in a veteran WCO QB to compete and teach (Flynn, Kolb, McNabb).

I love advanced metrics and all but when the author has to explain why guys like Russell Wilson and Nick Foles are rated super high in their metric but really aren't that good, it makes the metric look meaningless. I'm pretty sure I learned nothing from that.

I'm still moving towards Tannehill as a target for the Browns. Depending on what Seattle and Miami do, he can be available at 22, which is where I think he should be. We shouldn't take him at 4 and I'm not sold on moving down a few spots picking up an extra 2nd and getting Tannehill but as we move along, that option looks more enticing each day. NFL network guys seem to like him and his potential even with a 1st round pick.

The Lewin Predictor spits out its results:

Decent read Smooth, but I still do not understand why BMI is used here. According to the BMI, Ray Lewis should have died of a heart attack 5 years ago due to obesity. Same with Jabaal Sheard, Tim Tebow, etc. It's just a terrible reference point.

Anyways, as for Cousins, I actually like him. I think he threw extremely well at the combine and he played quite well at MSU. Not saying we should draft him, but if you ask me would I rather have him than Weeden, I take Cousins 10/10 times.

Okay so since Tebow was traded to the Jets, the Jets are thinking of either cutting or trading back up QB Drew Stanton. I personally never watched him play before but just throwing names out there. I believe we can get him cheap. 7th rounder if traded or a 1 yr 1.25mil like he signed with Jets.

Stanchize!

What is everyone's fascination with second or third tier QBs that won't amount to much?

I don't get it either. I'm pretty sure most back up quarterbacks could be had for a 7th round pick. Hell, I'd rather draft a QB in the 7th round and he'd most likely be better than Drew Stanton :chuckles:

So you're satisfied with having McCoy and Seneca? You want to continually improve. Stanton might not have what it takes but you wouldnt know unless you give it a shot. He is cheap so why the hell not?

No I'm not satisfied with McCoy or Seneca, but I think they're both better than Stanton. If we're going to make moves, I'd like for them to improve the team at least. Not just for the sake of making a move.

You could say that about any back up QB that hasn't started many games. What has Stanton shown that makes him deserving of a shot? When he's played, he's played poorly.

Sure. But how many potential QBs are there in the draft that can help us without us reaching for them?

Luck and RG3 will be gone. Tannehill is a 2nd/3rd round prospect hyped up to be a top 10 lock. Osweiler is a bust, Weeden probably has 20 grand kids and Foles thinks he only has 1 receiver. Cousins is okay but he'll probably be picked in the 2nd or something and thats too high. Russell Wilson might be 5-10 and the rest of the field arent any good.

Theres no one really interesting either in free agency. Who do you want? Donovan Mcnabb? Rex Grossman? Chad Henne?

Stanton might not be the guy but we need to bring in an experience QB.

If you're looking for experience, Seneca has 9 years in the league as opposed to Stanton's 5. Honestly there's nobody out there right now that's available I would go after. I would have taken Flynn at the price the Seahawks signed him for. I was expecting him to get a much bigger deal.

I would take Tannehill with the 22nd if he slips though. He has all the physical tools you look for in a franchise QB and I think it'll be a matter of him sitting on the bench for a season or two and learning the offense. I don't think he'd be ready to start day one nor would I want him to. I was a little concerned about taking a WR turned QB in the first round, but after reading he played QB all his life and was only switched to WR when he lost the QB battle against Stephen McGee his freshman year, I'm not too worried. I am concerned about his number of starts though.

just fwiw, i still like taking a flyer on osweiler in the middle rounds. i think with the proper development he could be great. he has all the tangibles that you want.

If I had money, I'd put money on Osweiler going early as 2nd round, latest in the 3rd.
