2012 RFA's

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Forget 2012. Save the cap to go after Dwight in 2013. With our core of Kyrie, Beal, TT, Gee, and Varejao, adding Howard would make us favorites or close to it. Seriously Dwight, what's not to like?

too bad dwight doesnt care as much about winning as he does the market.

Your boy had 4 points and 3 rebounds tonight... that's a no-show. Hibbert is not a max player or close to it and advocating the max for him is almost as hilarious as his selection to the all-star game. Put the bone down, dog.

Roy Hibbert, C 24 2-10 0-1 1 2 3 1 0 1 0 1 -17 4

Seriously, 1 game and he is a chump? Look at the body of work. 18.34 per. Easily a top ten center in the league and 25 years old. Has a 30.1 rebound rating on 82 games..

Draft centers can be a bust even if they had the heart. It's about durability and effort. Hibbert is still improving and is very athletic and 7'2". He is playing well with Darren no pass collision, and just half of his points are assisted. Get him and we are set. Don't get him and Indiana is Orlando II. They won't be able to put enough talent around him to get over the hump. Then they will have to blow it up and restart.

We get him, and we will have three lottery picks around him, plus 5 more first rounders over the next four years. Not to mention an excellent coach and organization. It's not the only way to do it, but it is one way...

Pretty sure Ilyasova straight up said that he would return overseas if he didn't get a better offer from the NBA - and he got a 5 mil offer overseas.

its true that lopez isnt a very good defender or rebounder, but he is a good scoring center. i think he and thompson could be a good combo, because we need to have someone who can hit a jumper for court spacing. mahinmi is overrated quite a bit on here, he didnt even start over brendan haywood. and if we are going just by defense, omer is probably one of the best paint defenders in the entire league.
the problem with this is that thompson's future status with the team is uncertain. if he isn't going to be anything more than the first or second big off the bench, getting a center to fit with him specifically doesn't make much sense. if he had cemented himself as the future starting 4 then it could be a possibility.

mahinmi is obviously not a starting caliber center and i don't think many people here expect him to be.

omer is pretty overrated too, actually. playing in that system helps and not many centers being worse than him on offense shouldn't be ignored either. and obv the fact that he is an awful awful awful fit with thompson (and varejao but who cares bc he's not a long-term option here).

there would be at least 2, potentially up to 4 teams that would be bigger favorites than the cavs.

also, it's cleveland. that is plenty to dislike. especially for a 20-something who happens to be a millionaire many times over.

also also, if dwight did sign with the cavs both thompson and varejao should then be immediately traded

okay, lets say that thompson isnt our future starting four. id like at least our power forward or center to be able to score. we could cement having a scoring center. if we get a scoring power forward, then no harm because you cant have enough front court scorers. if we dont, we still have a center who can score.

and i think omer is pretty underrated. i think he has the potential to one day make an all-defense team. his opp (0.68) is 16th best. mahinmi's opp is .78. as far as defensive rating, asik is at 94 while mahinmi is at 107. mahinmi is better on the offensive side however. but as far as defense goes, asik is very very good.

I'm ABSOLUTELY going to be in the minority, but I offer JaVale McGee $8M per for 3yrs. He's physically talented enough to be a better version of Tyson Chandler. With a quality coach, a high-quality SMART point guard, and a supportive team, I think he could reach his potential. Feel free to bash me for it.

Bash.

if you can get JaVale McGee for that price without giving up talent, great, especially if you think you can make him less of a knuckle head. But why to I think Denver would match? Probably because they just gave up Nene to get him and they are not going to let him walk for nothing.

yeah that's why he just opted in to stay in Orlando pretty sure he cares about winning
orlandos not winning anything. he stayed in orlando for another year so he remains beloved and doesnt completely fuck over his brand.

We should just go around to every team and make offers on their RFAs just enough so that their respective teams will still match the offer, but still high enough that all RFAs are overpaid. Then when those players underperform and are bad contracts, we can swoop in with our huge cap space, save the day, and take their 1st round picks in the process. With the reduction in the amount of days that a team can take to match an offer, we could do this with way more players than in previous years.

Offer the max to Hibbert and Lopez. If we can get one of the mour core would be fantastic to say the least Kyrie/Beal/Tristan/Hibbert or Lopez is a great young core. Multiple years to grow together.

Check the date that I originally posted that idea...it was before McGee was traded. I still wonder what price Denver would not match, but I'm willing to try. McGee is a big athletic guy that could provide exactly what Coach Scott wants out of his center (defense and rebounding). Feed him a couple lobs and easy bucked on offense, and he could easily be a 15point/12rebound/2block center.

As far his Hibbert and Lopez go, neither are ideal options. Neither are very good options. Hibbert is unathletic (despite someone claiming he is). He's not a good pick-and-roll center on offense or defense. Kyrie Irving is an EXCELLENT pnr point guard. He's a lumbering center, similar to how Z was the last few years. He's decently skilled, but not a good fit for this team. Lopez, also, is a horrible pnr center offensively and defensively. Yes, he's a good offensive center, but he doesn't fit what this team needs. Again, Byron Scott has said the center he needs is a defender and rebounder. Those are two of Lopez's biggest weaknesses. If you could combine Lopez's offense with Hibbert's rebounding and defense, then you'll have a good center. Without that, they're just not good fits. And think about it this way, IF those guys are that good, their current teams will not let them go (which they won't anyway), so a maximum contract would have to be offered (which is 'less than max' to the current team). Those guys are tainted forbidden fruit.

I guess I can rest easy knowing that even if the Cavs were dumb enough to offer Hibbert the freaking max, Indiana wont be letting him leave anyway. I would MUCH rather make a mistake on a cheap young big with upside in the draft than an $80 million dollar, cap-killing mistake like signing an overrated C who averages 12 and 9. To each his own...
