Re: 2013 Mike Miller Thriller - Amnestied , Cavs interested ???

So here's a thought, maybe Mike Miller has talked to Cavs and is claiming he needs back surgery so less teams make an offer. Which in turn makes it easier for the Cavs to get him.

Re: 2013 Mike Miller Safari

we don't have to delay to do that. You only have to clear space to sign him if we win the waiver claim, and we pretty much have to release Miles to have enough space. Even if we try to get miller first, we still have to be under the cap to sign Bynum.

too many posters are posting stuff like this without doing any research. You are wrong, if we ink Bynum officially we are no longer allowed to put in a claim on anyone as we will not be under the cap. Simple, to be ale to claim anyone, we have to delay Bynum. Once Bynum is inked, we are not allowed to participate in any amnesty claim. Plain and simple! Only teams that have cap space can put in a claim.

It's kind of strange how the Cavaliers are making similar FA moves as they were when Lebron was here. Nothing major but better than average players that are role players. It almost seems scripted for Lebrons return next season.

yes we can, I did the research. Look at the coon faq. You have to claim with space, but you can release players to make the space after you win the bid.

I want guys who want to be here. The fact that it suddenly and "randomly" leaked that Miller may get surgery or retire tells me all I need to know. Not worth it.

Well I am going by Windy and it was also confirmed by THE PD, and Fear the Sword. If that was the case then any team could place a bid and then cut guys. There is a small list of teams that are allowed to bid and it is based on cap space. and specifically being under the cap. You are not allowed to put in a bid if you are over the cap.

Miami doesn't want him so what better revenge would it be then to join the Cavaliers?

Mike Miller doesn't think that way. Few athletes do anymore.

That's the problem with the NBA these days, it's all about money, location and image. As much as I hate Kobe, at least he is loyal, knows how to play the game the right way, and wants to kill the other guy, figuratively speaking.

Jarrett Jack and potentially Andrew Bynum don't fall under 'better than average' though. Jack was instrumental for Golden State last season, and Bynum when healthy is a top-2 center in the NBA.

I'd say exactly the opposite. I feel the Cavs are building a team which can win a championship without LeBron.

Its hard to credit him for being loyal when hes been with one of the top 3 markets his entire career. KG in Minnesota was loyal to me.

The coon faq is the definitive reference for all salary cap issues. Here's what is says.

In order to submit a bid for a partial waiver claim, the bidding team must have cap room equivalent to the portion of their bid that would be charged to team salary in that season, plus the amount of any likely bonuses (see question number 72) for that season. If necessary, teams can create this cap room by waiving non-guaranteed players, but not by making trades. The team must make the cap room available immediately upon being awarded the amnesty claim.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q67

The only reason to delay signing Bynum is it gives us the option of trading Miles for a pick if we win the amnesty bid. But I suspect if we could trade Miles for a pick, we'd take that trade regardless of the results of amnesty.

And the number of teams that can bid are still limited, most teams have enough guaranteed contracts that they can't clear enough space to get under the cap by releasing players.
