Kind of random, but one of the office workers at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers sent Dan Patrick an email asking if they could get the entire office off on Thursday or Friday for the opening round games. Dan Patrick called up the office manager, and they all got Friday off. :chuckles:

So yeah, those are confirmed.

Columbus should be more exciting than usual to watch this year.

Aeros Opening lineup! Holt-CF, Ramirez-2B, Moncrief-RF, Aguilar-1B, Chen-DH, Perez-C, Urshela-3B, Latimore-LF, Rodriguez-SS, Salazar-RHP

Jose Ramirez jumping up a couple levels to Akron this year is something to keep an eye on. As is Aguilar as he hits a level where his slow bat probably won't play as well.

Huge jump for Ramirez, tells ya what they think of his bat. If he can develop any pop, look out. Aguilar still intrigues me, just too much power potential there to ignore. That should be a fun team to watch, at least for me- spotty potential but guys I still enjoy watching play (Holt, Moncrief, Urshela, Chen).

Minors 4/4:

Columbus beats Indy 4-0: Jeremy Hermida with the game's only offense, a eighth inning grand slam. Joe Martinez 5.2 shutout innings. Hagadone struck out the side in his only inning, Matt Langwell tossed 1.2 scoreless (2BB, 2K)

Akron lost 2-1: Danny Salazar started and tossed 5.0 innings (1ER, 2H, 2BB, 5K). Jose Ramirez (2-for-4) had the teams only RBI

Lake County won 5-4: LeVon Washington went 0-for-3 and left the game early, not sure why.

Is your top 10 ranking of Lindor mostly about the glove or do you see his bat developing in a big way. He's having a good year so far only 9 Ks in 68 ABs and batting over 300. Can he also develop power? His speed is good too. I'm thinking he might be as good of a hitter as Starlin Castro. What do you think?

I think a guy who projects as a plus-plus glove at short who might post .380+ OBPs is a star. Replacement-level at shortstop right now is just slightly above my arthritic cat.

Love Lindor, can't wait to see that kid continue to progress.

He and Naquin (showing more pop thus far) at the top of the order in Carolina would be worth the price of admission for me if I still lived in Zebulon.

He should be in Double A before the year's over, right?

He should be in Double A before the year's over, right?

Not out of the realm of possibility, but he would have to be absolutely tearing the Carolina League up.

They may as well give him this full season in High-A, where he is already one of the youngest players in the league. Ronny Rodriguez should continue playing everyday in Akron, and there isn't much of a rush to push these guys ahead of their prospective timelines.

LeVon Washington update: Kid goes 5 for 5 (4 singles, 9th inning double) for Lake County on Saturday in a 13-7 loss to Clinton. One of the few bright spots for the Captains as the 9th inning was highlighted by a 6 run ninth by Clinton including the Captains' shortstop and 2nd baseman running into each other with 2 outs, causing the SS to drop the ball. That extended the inning, and led to 4 runs scoring.

I still love Eastlake's park. Great little park to watch a game.

Followed it up with a 3-for-4 (2B, 3B, 3R) today in the front half of a double-header.

If the kid could stay on the field, he's got serious promise.

I wrote about the rise of Indians RHP Danny Salazar on Monday. Struck out 12 in 6 scoreless today; 43 SO in 28.2 IP tied for tops in minors.
28.2 IP, 2.83 ERA, 22 hits, 9 BB, 43 SO so far in Akron this year. Anyone know what kind of stuff he has?

edit: Found this on Baseball America

Danny Salazar, rhp, Indians: Salazar was a pleasant surprise last year in and Indians farm system in need of pitching. After several nondescript years since signing out of the Dominican Republic in 2006, Salazar’s fastball jumped to the mid-to-high 90s last season, and the jump in stuff has carried over to 2013. He struck out nine in five shutout innings for the second straight start on Friday for Double-A Akron, lowering his ERA to 3.57 with 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.8 walks per nine through five starts. Durability is still a question mark for Salazar, but he could be in line to make his big league debut later this season.

Our old friend Matt LaPorta made his season debut with the Clippers tonight,
and went 3-4 with a HR.

Other than Adam Miller, LaPorta is the ultimate cautionary tale when it comes to prospects. He completely tears apart minor league pitching and always has. In the big leagues he looks completely lost.

I'm sure LaPorta will get a random chance at some point during the season. It's inevitable.
