It depends on who we pick this year. We still have a lot of needs to fill.

It would be good if someone wrote a prospect list of the Players we should all be looking at.

I think it really depends more on whether Varejao is on this team or not this offseason. We all saw how close the 2-10 spots (roughly) were in the pre-lottery. That's how we jumped from 8th to third so quickly. With Varejao gone, we could let our youthful inexperience all the way to one more top 5 pick and explode onto the scene in 2013-2014 with yet another top five pick, one more year under the belts of our entire team, and possibly even some really good free agent signings if we decide to wait until then for that. The Thunder jumped from, what, 23 to 50 wins once they got their full core of Durant, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka in place? I think we could be a 50-win team 2 seasons from now in 2013-2014.

unless we can swing a trade with nawlins for okafor and/or ariza I dont wanna get rid of varejao hes our only really vet at this point

I moved this draft thread to the draft forum since it is a back-burner item at this point. All "closer look" threads for any 2013 prospects should also go in the "Trades, Free Agency, & the Draft" forum. At some point after the various 2012 draft threads clear out from Cavs Talk, we'll move this thread back into Cavs Talk.

Not to fan the flames but i was watching a findlay prep highlights and thought, that number 15 for the other team looks real good. It was Shabazz, he has a nice all round game and displayed the abiltiy to get to his spots on the floor and make contested mid range shots

What about Shabazz Napier, from UConn. If we could use a 2nd rounder on him, he'd be a nice back up PG IMO.

Muhammad on the other hand is a 6-6 SG/SF. We need him.
Take Beal and put Muhammad at SF.
Take Barnes and put Muhammad at SG.
Him going to UCLA instead of UK proves to me he's mature IMO and not a bandwagoner of a player. Loyalty is important. UK makes players good. He's already the best and decides not to go there. HUGE plus IMO.

Or it means Cali is much better than Kentucky as far as places to live

I would love to see two guys named Shabazz on the Cavaliers at the same time.

who knows voodoo? lets put the curse in on the lakers so they are a lottery team next year and we swap pick position with them from the heat pick!

No, No, and NO on Napier, he completely screwed up UConn's chemistry, he constantly needed the ball, he hindered Lamb and Drummond, he was one of the biggest problems on that team.

Maybe we can convince them that Hickson is the second coming of Odom so they sign him? :chuckles:

Assuming we pick a wing player like Bradley Beal or Harrison Barnes at #4........who would you like to see us pick next year?

There is going to be a surplus of big men that fit a need like Cody Zeller, Nerlens Noel, and James McAdoo. Or maybe even another wing player like Shabazz Muhhamed.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic or negative (depnending on how you look at it), but if the guy we pick this year turns out to be good and Varejao stays healthy, I'm not sure we are in the lottery next year. At thevery least, I think we will be awfully close to that 8th spot.

Part of the reason why I want Varejao moved is because of the negative impact he will have on our picks next season and even further along the way if we decide to keep him for good. Imagine a rocket with several burners attached to it. One burner is set off much earlier than the rest while the others are set off later. However, this burner also burns out not much longer after the others are set off. When all burners are set off at once, the rocket can reach space. However, since the one burner went off early and wasn't able to help in unison with the others, the rocket crashed and burned. Varejao is that early releasing burner. We need someone who will be making big defensive and offensive players in 2015-2016, 17, 18, 19, 20, etc. Varejao will not be that guy. We almost were a playoff team this past season with Varejao healthy. Imagine drafting JUST Myers Leonard as our big time haul and how ridiculous that sounds. We'd all be fucked. Even with drafting Beal this year, we'll still lack the star power to compete with the Thunders, Bulls, and Heats of the NBA. We likely need one more big draft before we can feel comfortable competing in a few years after that. I don't want to miss out on that prospect that we need because we kept someone who will not even be productive by the time we are contending.

In your analogy of a rocket wouldn't one burner going off too early just tip the thing over?

We cant collect lottery picks till the Kyrie's retirement. He need good players around him now or else he will leave Cavs. He must compete, he must play playoff basketball soon. If we can get good players now, 1 or 2 solid free agents, than make playoffs, Kyrie and Tristan would be happy, our rookies will be happy too, and there is bigger chance to get some good free agent if you are playoff team and you have potential superstar in this league for years to come.

If Cavs suck and stucked in lottery for 2 or 3 years more, than we are getting nothing, Kyrie is going to leave us, and Bobcats would be championship caliber team compared to us. We must compete now, from next season. We cant be in rebuilding mode 6 years, if we do that, than we are Bobcats or Kings. Maybe we can tank next season, but thats it, we cant gamble anymore. It seems guys here want 5 years top 5 picks and every season 2-3 rookies, yeah that is possible on NBA 2k12 with good draft class patches, but in reality that's blasphemy.

Don't let LeBron ruin things for you. The key isn't to get in the playoffs as soon as possible, its to build a core that can compete for the long-term. If Kyrie leaves, he leaves, but it won't be because they didn't get the 8-seed in his second or third year.

Build a solid core capable of competing for years, and players won't want to leave. Simple as that.
