Don't let LeBron ruin things for you. The key isn't to get in the playoffs as soon as possible, its to build a core that can compete for the long-term. If Kyrie leaves, he leaves, but it won't be because they didn't get the 8-seed in his second or third year.

Build a solid core capable of competing for years, and players won't want to leave. Simple as that.

If we are tanking season after season, nobody is coming here, if we are wining, if our young players compete and improve, than we have chance to make solid core. Next few drafts we have two first round picks each year, so that is enough to build solid core, we dont need to loose, we dont need tanking, that was point of my post. Is not good thing to think that we will improve only if we get top 5 draft picks, we can improve via free agency too because if our young players continue to improve, if Kyrie continue like he started his career in NBA, there is a lot of solid players who would like to sign for us.

Who said anything about tanking?

I think the main point of this thread is the team isn't likely to make the playoffs. They simply won't have the talent. So why not look ahead to who we can take next season.

We cant collect lottery picks till the Kyrie's retirement. He need good players around him now or else he will leave Cavs. He must compete, he must play playoff basketball soon. If we can get good players now, 1 or 2 solid free agents, than make playoffs, Kyrie and Tristan would be happy, our rookies will be happy too, and there is bigger chance to get some good free agent if you are playoff team and you have potential superstar in this league for years to come.

If Cavs suck and stucked in lottery for 2 or 3 years more, than we are getting nothing, Kyrie is going to leave us, and Bobcats would be championship caliber team compared to us. We must compete now, from next season. We cant be in rebuilding mode 6 years, if we do that, than we are Bobcats or Kings. Maybe we can tank next season, but thats it, we cant gamble anymore. It seems guys here want 5 years top 5 picks and every season 2-3 rookies, yeah that is possible on NBA 2k12 with good draft class patches, but in reality that's blasphemy.

That's just a bunch of hyperbole. Let's not stretch things beyond what anyone has said when making a statement. I've seen no one suggest that the Cavs should stay in the lottery for 2 to 3 years more, let alone 5 years. As a matter of fact, I have not seen a single person suggest that we shouldn't be anywhere but in the playoffs by the 2013-2014 season. Not even me, the biggest tanker of all. Where did I say that we should go any further past next season in terms of staying in the lottery? One more season of a high lottery pick is not going to make Kyrie leave.

Even after next season, we'll have him for two more years, and then he'll be a restricted free agent. Didn't we all see Durant come out fine after two years of suck? He signed a max contract without blinking because his team exploded after two years into his contract. If we play our cards right, we'll have at least one, if not two or even three lottery picks next season between our own, the Kings' pick, maybe even the Lakers pick in addition to any picks for which we may trade, and we'll also have a ton of cap space. Between adding a ton of talent through the draft and through free agency in the 2013 off-season, which is 2 years into Kyrie's rookie contract out of four years, I don't see how we won't be well into the playoffs by the time Kyrie's rookie contract is up.

one nice thing about having two picks for the next two years is that the Cavs will be able to trade future picks if they need to.

Can we get this moved to the main forum... long way to go to beat this year's record!!!!!!!!:chuckles:

Not until things calm down with this draft. It will get moved eventually.

I don't have the energy for another one of these threads.

We need a small forward. Top Target is Shabazz Muhammad but 2nd choice would be Adonis Thomas from Memphis

Muhammad is going top 3, so lets not set our selves for a downer 10 months from now, because we wont nearly be that bad. Adonis Thomas is a decent prospect, and so is Nash. Still early, does not look like more than a average to slightly above average draft. It is okay, but nothing great. We will prob have another pick in the early 20's, to draft a role player as well. 12 months away Thomas and Nash are prob our best options if we should go the Sf route. It is a center heavy draft, so dont be surprised if go Center and Zeller becomes our third big long term. Also, still feel Waiters is best coming off the bench so a starting caliber SG may an option as well. As a said in an another thread, I have this uneasy feeling we are building a 45-48 win team and not a title contender long term. I see one future all star in Irving, and some slightly to moderatly above average players around him. I almost feel like it is in our best interest to find oursleves in the bottom 4, so we can get another guy with huge all-star upside. I think this team if Andy stays healthy will win way too many games for that and we may be entering Atlanta hawk territory in the next 2-3 years. Hope I am dead wrong!!

After the disappointment in missing out on PJIII, MKG and Drummond I am no longer investing in these high school/college prospects. Lol. I can't take it anymore. I don't want to know who these guys are.. so what if I think a name like Shabazz is guaranteed to be number one on my draft board. I don't want to be disappointed anymore. I hate you Michael Jordan.

Obviously our biggest whole right now is at small forward.

That being said, I would think that we should go best player available next year.

An early look at the 2013 NBA draft - ESPN

If we trade Varejao, i'd get Zeller.....i doubt we'd have a shot at Noel but that'd be nice. I'm also interested in Rudy Gobert the 7'1 Center from France

getting zeller, shabazz or adams is good. but i want zeller he is a great scorer and he abused a.davis in there matchups and having the zeller brothers on 1 teams is some cool stuff
