2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dodgers great day continues.

Heaney for Howie Kendrick

Heyman reiterated our interest in Rios today.

Yeah I know, I'm just skeptical though because we just acquired a second everyday corner outfielder two days ago-- I don't consider Brantley in CF a viable long-term option anymore unless its an emergency.

Reporters get their info mostly from agents in these scenarios so why shrink your clients market on your own?

I'd love for it to be true but the only way I see Rios fitting in here is as a platoon and he probably wants a bigger role than that.

Yeah, Moss is not going to be playing everyday in the outfield, let's just clear that up early on. And right now our outfield consists of nothing but left handed bats, outside of Raburn whose days in Cleveland are probably numbered. As far as I'm concerned, the Moss acquisition means Murphy will be dealt as he becomes redundant on this team, and the interest in Rios means they aren't convinced Raburn is going to bounce back and be the right handed platoon man in the OF.

Why are we leaving Zach Walters and his .339/.383/.589 in AAA and .289/.325/.632 in the MLB against LHP out of the conversation? The Indians love him, by evidence they paid Asdrubal's entire salary to acquire him, and his best position is probably a corner OF..... he just needs AB's.

I'm just skeptical. Like I said in my edited post, I'd love for it to be true but it doesn't make a ton of sense for either side at this point.

The initial reports said the Indians had about $10 million to spend in FA. Moss is scheduled to make $7m. Maybe we deal Raburn or Murphy but will 5-8 million (probably less since we'll probably have to take on money) be enough to sign Rios and a back-end starter?

I love Walters, provides so much versatility being able to play middle IF and the corners in the OF, but you just answered why I left him out of the mix. He needs ABs. You very rarely find switch hitters with that much power, and it would be nice to see him begin to strike out less and work on his plate discipline. He's not going to enough ABs at the MLB level to work on that platooning with someone, so I would guess they start him out in AAA so he can get every day ABs.

We aren't going to be signing a back end starter. We might trade for an overpriced one with Murphy, Swisher, or Raburn, but we aren't outright signing one. There will be depth signings for starters, though, with minor league deals and ST invites. The one thing that I think is set in stone right now are the starters. Kluber, Bauer, Salazar, Carrasco, House. There will be a need for depth, though, as a lot of those guys haven't racked up big inning seasons.

I have to give Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi the benefit of the doubt, but yesterday's Dodgers acquisitions leave a lot to be desired IMO.

The Padres getting Kemp for 5 yrs/$75 million is a steal for them price wise, but Kemp's power is firmly towards the biggest area of their ballpark.

He's really going to struggle to put up numbers there, IMO.

Think the Tribe makes a run at Quentin, have to believe he becomes free after they got Kemp. Know he's kind of injury prone but he's a right handed power bat that only makes around 8$ mil a year.

Figure coming to the AL will increase the amount he plays /decrease the amount of injuries since he can fit into the DH slot.

As much as I wanted Quentin at one point, he's just not good enough now.

Less than 85 games in each of the last three seasons, was absolutely awful in what little time he did see. No position flexibility, and the injuries have just caught up to him too much IMO.

I don't know, man:

Tigers getting Cespedes for Rick Porcello.

Actually pretty happy about this, IMO.

Trading offense for pitching is not what Detroit needs to be doing.

Sorry Detroit and humanity, but Mike Ilitch has got to go.

Detroit has a good looking lineup right now.

That said, Cespedes should fill in nicely when Victor regresses and succumbs to injury.
