2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Detroit has a good looking lineup right now.

That said, Cespedes should fill in nicely when Victor regresses and succumbs to injury.

Someone pointed out on Twitter that as much as we talk about Brantley and Kluber regressing a bit - there's almost no chance Victor or JD repeat those years. JD's .389 BABIP is a fairly obviously sign of that.

And then you ask if Verlander is done or if he's going to bounceback. They lost Porcello. There's some flaws with that roster.

The bullpen, the health of their stars (Miggy, Verlander), the regression of their breakouts (Martinez, Rajai Davis).

Torii Hunter '14 - 17 HR. - 286/.319/.446/.765
Cespedes '14 - 22 HR - .260/.301/.450/.751

They have quite a few guys coming off the books after this season, right? And with the age of their roster - think they continue to throw money around or could this year end that window a bit?

Price, Avila, Davis, Cespedes, Nathan , Soria.

One would think they'd be looking at guys they can control beyond 2015, but it doesn't appear so.

And then there's this, too:

Latos ruled out as the pitcher going to Detroit, looks like he's going to Florida.

Man, this is the most active I've ever seen the Winter Meetings. Regretting not attending this year.

Simon is also a free agent after this season.

Tigers building a ship that can't get them to a championship, IMO. One that can't sail again after 2015.

So Tigers going all in. Eh if they were going to trade a pitcher, Porcello was it. Never been much of a fan of his. Huge gamble on Cespedes as I think Dombrowski thinks having Cabrera could bring out his best. We all saw how Vic bounced back and note how much more power Zach Walters gained by just having a conversation with him. Being around him every day just might catapult Yoenis up a level...

But really that is funny how Hunters numbers were just as good. I want to like the trade but Dombrowski pulls these moves out even when conventional wisdom says it was a loss. I can't vote against him at this juncture.

I'm not a fan of Porcello at all, so I like the move for Detroit, but it's not that impact-full. They did need a bat though, so Cespedes should help a little.

Serious question - are hte Tigers better?

They swapped Hunter for Cespedes and Porcello for Simon, right?

I'd say no. I think Cespedes and Simon are both downgrades from the players they lost. The Tigers need to re-sign Scherzer to have had anything resembling a successful off-season IMO

I don't know, man:

Yeah, but he's not going to be commanding a multi million dollar contract or anything that takes up a large portion of our spending room. Probably be a cheap deal with a ST invite, therefor my comment on adding depth starters, which I would consider Anderson to be, as well as a reclamation project for Callaway. I mean the guy just had back surgery and has had arm issues in the past.

I do like Brett Anderson though. He was pitching well and not giving up many HRs in Colorado, which is hard to do (he has become a pretty good GB pitcher after losing his strikeout stuff) before his back issues. As a lefty myself, I will always have a soft spot for lefties who can mix in a change every once in a while...no harder pitcher to face in baseball than a lefty with a good change.

Royals getting Kendry Morales.
