2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not paying Scherzer is a smart move for them, but not having a replacement for him makes this is a questionable move.

Off-season isn't over, though. I'd expect them to get into James Shields.

Ervin Santana to the Twins on a 4 yr deal apparently.

jesus what are the Indians going to do to keep up with the central making huge moves....Any ideas?

Adding a premier lefty power bat will help.

There honestly wasn't much retooling to do, unless they can find a taker for the bad contracts.

They're a young team, how far they go will depend on the development from the core.

It's really hard to tell what the Indians might do because so much of it is dependent on the ability/inability to move Murphy and, less realistically, Swisher or Bourn.

If they somehow move Bourn, I think Rios becomes a lot more realistic with a Moss/Brantley/Rios outfield. However, I don't expect them to be able to move Bourn.

Realistically I expect them to dump Murphy for a reliever to add some depth to the bullpen. They'll sign at least one veteran SP. Barring a trade, I think they'll wait out free agents for the most part and see if they can get a bargain in March or April.

Moss was the big acquisition.

The moss trade was the 2nd biggest move in the central, right? After Samardzija?

Tigers made mostly lateral moves. Royals replaced Butler w Morales. Twins signed Ervin Santana. None of them really got much better.

That was why the dealt for David Price. Leaves the Tigers with Price, Sanchez and Upton as their top 3. Leaves Alfredo Pollo Simon and Greene to round it out. Not the rotation they ran with prior but the writing has been in the wall since Scherzer turned down a good offer to stay. And I might even venture to say I like Simon more than Porcello but that is my opinion.

Venture all you like, you'd be crazy to take Simon's half a good season over Porcello, whose 25 and doubled up Simon in WAR while besting him in ERA+ and FIP by a substantial margins.

Thank god more people are not impressed with the Royals and Tigers offseasons. I felt like I was taking crazy pills after debating people I know that thought they were all having amazing offseasons and the Tribe wasn't.

Masterson signs with Boston.
