2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Our third or forth I assume. I like the depth but we still lack punch after Kluber.

There is a dearth of "punch" after Kluber.

Carrasco, Bauer and Salazar have some sick stuff, but getting them to be consistent is the obvious challenge. With them being out of options, you've got to insure yourself with veteran guys.

Floyd is brought on as a stretch guy, who allows you to stretch your rotation a bit further by stashing House in AAA and using him as your 6th starter.

Yeah consistent is what I was getting after actually. I like this move for the reason you stated as the depth is nice to have. It also takes stress of some of the younger guys to perform well basically because of lack of depth we used to have. I wonder what the rotation will look like now.

Wonder if Brett Anderson getting $10mil just shot the whole market.

Might have come down to a choice of - complete crap on a minor league invite, or Floyd on a major league deal.

I like House - but he probably pitched above his head last year. Having him in AAA isn't worth getting super upset about. Not like he won't get plenty of starts next year.

I am almost sure this was the Indians back up plan if they did not get Anderson. Like I said you take what you can get at this point. We all know they would not or can't pony up the money for the top pitchers on the market. So nice deal I guess It will light a fire under the others for the fifth spot I hope.

Twitter freaking out about Salazar's option - but for it to matter it would mean House was in the rotation and Salazar sent down? That seems unlikely to me.

Salazar and House both have an option left.

Not sure I agree with Floyd getting a spot right out of camp, but if we're paying him that much I guess we have to. He pitched very well in nine starts last season, but he was definitely nothing more than league average in his time in Chicago.

Chicago-era Floyd (when he was last healthy) would not have cracked our second half rotation last year.

Wondered about Salazar considering how ling he has been in the 40. I could not recall if he had TJ before or after he got added, which is one situation where a team can keep an option year.

Mariners might be interested in Murphy, but I would be surprised if the Tribe can move him just yet. I think he is more likely to be jettisoned come January when the market is bare.

Me thinks we go the Wade Davis route with Salazar.....

More likely to happen with McAllister. Salazar has too much upside to be turned into a pen guy at age 24. It was a small sample size, but McAllister had a 2.77 ERA with 14 K and 2 BB in 13 IP as a reliever last season. Overall, he had a .624 OPS in pitches 1-15 last season. That number jumps to .827 in pitches 16-30 and .909 in pitches 31-45. In other words, the deeper he goes into games, the worse he gets.

Yeah they aren't turning Salazar into a reliever.

He'll get every opportunity to stay in the rotation, that just seems like baseless twitter speculation IMO.

Oh, yeah, I wouldn't agree with moving Salazar to the pen but professional sports in general is one big copycat-- so it wouldn't surprise me if they tried it. I think the Royals success this postseason might have something to do with the inflation in salaries for relievers this offseason.
