2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Victor heading back to Detroit on a four-year pact.

Tigers are gonna fall apart at some point - but they're gonna be great for another 1-2 years and that's a problem for Tribe. Santana is a FA in 2017 and the rest of the guys start around 2018. These are our prime years.

If they're expecting 36 year old Victor to A. have that same production in 2015 and B. stay healthy for another full season (let alone 4), they are stoned.

Touching on what Boobie said above. Jesus Aguilar has to be dealt this off season right? He has the pop in his bat but when he's brought up he rarely plays. Not sure why that is but it seems like he could be a Richie Sexson type. Get a nice piece for him because we just don't have the room.

Baseball America released their Tigers Top 10 prospects today, they named Devon Travis the team's number one prospect.

Tonight they traded Travis to Toronto for center fielder Anthony Gose, a failed prospect who will be on his fourth team.

It's a shame that minor league doesn't count for just general fans, because Detroit is just ran absolutely awfully. The contracts are stupid and it seems like they overpay because even they know they can't replace any of their starters with depth.

Jose Ramirez and Jesus Aguilar for Marcell Ozuna.

Who says no?

CF - Bourn
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - Santana
2B - Kipnis
RF - Ozuna
C - Gomes
DH - Swisher
3B - Chisenhall

Unfortunately, Miami says no, right? I can't imagine why the Marlins would make this deal with their shortstop Hechavarria being only 25 years old and putting up solid numbers at the plate.

They're desperately looking for a second baseman, so Ramirez would fit quite well there. They also lack much of anything at 1B and have a whole there.

Plus, their outfield is pretty deep and Ozuna isn't exactly rangy in center to begin with.

But I definitely think they'd be more likely to say no. Ozuna is a hell of a young guy.

And looks like an ugly bizzaro version of Michael Brantley...

Phillies Sign Elvis Araujo To MLB Deal
By Jeff Todd [November 13, 2014 at 3:11pm CST]
The Phillies have inked left-hander Elvis Araujo to a major league deal, the club announced today. The towering lefty never moved past the Double-A level with the Indians, but performed well at that level and has looked good in the Venezuelan Winter League.

He looked good in Winter Ball by all accounts...

Hoynsie:

Re: Masterson:

... So how would Justin Masterson fit into that group?

Yes, the Indians have talked to Masterson about returning to Cleveland...

..The Indians would only be interested in Masterson on a one-year deal. Masterson's camp probably wouldn't mind that either, because it would give him a chance to re-establish himself before going back into the free-agent market after 2015...

..Masterson's return would require a balancing act. Bauer, Carrasco and McAllister are out of options. McAllister could go in the bullpen, which would probably mean House and Tomlin would open the year at Class AAA Columbus...

..It would be hard to start the 2014 version of Masterson (7-9, 5.88) in front of House or Tomlin. By the time he was traded, he'd slipped from No. 1 to No. 5 in the rotation..

..So what happened to Masterson last season? It turns out that he pitched hurt.

"At the end of the season, Justin said he really felt he should have spoken up more about what was going on with him," said St. Louis GM John Mozeliak. "It was just one of those things that didn't work out.

Re: Jimenez to Tribe:

Jimenez had his best season in the last five with the Indians in 2013 when he went 13-9 with the help of pitching coach Mickey Callaway. No, that does not mean they want him back.

Also:

Look for the Indians to try to sign closer Cody Allen to a multiyear deal this offseason. They approached him during the regular season, but talks stalled.

I better never see Ubaldo Jimenez in the third base dugout at Progressive Field ever again.

Congrats to Brantley for finishing 3rd In the MVP voting. A joy to watch.
