2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Their major acquisition this off season will be by trade. Done a good job building the farm system back up that some of them are becoming expendable.

I don't know where fans got the idea we would be able to sign Victor back in the first place, but it was never realistic with the kind of season he had this year.

No worries. Victor is one of my favorite Indians of all time, but the chances he puts up those numbers (32HR/400+ obp, etc) are about 0%.

There was some talk about Josh Beckett earlier in this thread:

He intends to retire.

He's received praise in his dealing with the pitching staff, along with Mickey.

I honestly did not even know we had Kevin Cash out in our bullpen.

He was Varitek's backup when Tito was in Boston wasn't he?

Sandy will be interviewing in Minnesota.

Probably not a real candidate there, IMO.

Will come down to Molitor and Doug Mientkiewicz

Looks like those $600 seats they are selling that they bought with tax money aren't landing us Victor. Hopefully they sell enough to buy out Swisher.

Never going to happen with Swisher. I'm also not sure what the issue is of them selling seats they won't be using to gain revenue that will be put right back into the stadium, but I guess it's the Indians so we need a reason to complain.

Finally, I'm not sure why anyone is upset/surprised that Shapiro said they weren't going after the top free agents. Did people really expect the Indians to wine-and-dine Jon Lester and Max Scherzer?

Honestly, and I may be in the minority here, but I'd much rather they find a way to get rid of Bourn rather than Swisher.

I guess the positive with Bourn is he at least plays the field, while Swisher's future beyond DH is up in the air. I think Bourn is more likely (yet still unlikely) to gain enough interest from another team to be moved as well. Bourn's value is just killed if he's not stealing a ton of bases.

I get that he plays the field, but my thinking is that Bourn is also limited: to the leadoff role. And at this point, he's a brutal leadoff hitter, as he's not stealing bases, doesn't get on base a ton, and doesn't hit for a high average. As you said, he's basically useless if he's not stealing bases.

In ohter news, the Indians have moved the Bob Feller statue off the spot it has occupied since the opening of the stadium. Was dropped on a flat bed and dumped somewhere down the street, according to Indians.com.

Totally get your point - but the problem with moving Bourn is that there is no one to replace him.

If we could move Swish it would allow for so much flexibility with the roster.

I think Bourn is still the more productive player, even with the loss in speed.

Though I think he should be hitting 9th instead of leadoff. If he can provide solid outfield defense, some speed and on-base ability, he's the more productive player than a busted Swisher who is relegated to DH or a poor defensive player.

Think we'll see a rebound season from either of them?
