2014-15 Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lakers look like the Byron Scott Cavs of old... glad all those days are over.

I'm glad this is not like 2012-2013, when we had to root for the Lakers to make the playoffs. That was awful, and it would be hopeless this year.

Phoenix owns the Lakers first-round pick in 2015 (top 5 protected) as part of the Nash trade. :chuckle:

Haha no way I forgot about that. The Suns looking to get the better end of that deal all the way around. I wonder how good Randle will be though. He seems to have a little Bennett mixed with a poor mans Webber game. Finally Kobe is in for a looooonnnggg season.

Edit. Well so much for my Randle comment. Sad turn of events best wishes to him.

Now Randle is seriously injured. That is a total bummer. First NBA game.

As for that pick, Suns may have to wait until 2016.

Damn, Julius Randle broken leg. Poor kid, 1st career game.

Sans Parsons, Harden's usage should go up which bodes well for Houston's offense since Harden seems to get FTs on just about every other possession and is therefore extremely efficient. He got exposed big time in last year's playoffs, though, so I don't know how useful this type of play in the regular season is.

The Lakers, not unexpectedly, look terrible and noncompetitive. There might be more than a few games in which Kobe hoists up 35+ shots.

Mavs vs spurs: impressed by Dallas, they seem to have a similar blend of vets with something to prove as in 2011, but looks like tony might take a few more triples this season. Danny green is still the cold blooded killer of last year so they look strong as per usual. Hats off to draw for sporting the greying Afro, hopefully he will be full 'uncle drew' before he retires

Lakers: they look like a rec team trying to run and offense, not sure what happens first Kobe rips a team mates arms of, or I have sympathy for him. Just glad I don't have to rely on national coverage so I don't have to watch this crap
Rockets: look like the rockets of last year. Jones has come on nicely and is now starting to use his whole game, still forcing the ball into Howard. Wonder how long it will take them to realise he's not hugely effective compared to their wind play.

Pelican: Davis beasting, Gordon looked healthy early on, month letting Evans run the offense they seem ready to aim for home court in the playoffs if Davis stays healthy.
Orlando : Gordon made more jumpers this game than his entire summer league, Payton ran the lint well in spurts and found guys. They will suck but they are trying to build the right way.

Losing that coin flip could have triggered an alternate series of events that could have led to us not winning the lottery. It's not as simple as being able to change one thing in the past without it affecting other things. It could have also led to us not getting LeBron and Love.

If we had Irving and Davis, I doubt LeBron would have needed us to trade for Love in the first place. Let's be real here...there's not a single person in the NBA that would take Love over Davis, this year or going forward. Love is a top ten player, but Anthony Davis is probably going to be the third best player in the league this year.

And Love still could have forced his way here.

Also, the Lakers season from hell started sooner than I expected. Sucks for Randle, though. I like the kid and you never want to see a guy get hurt, especially in his first damn game.

In terms of strictly impact, because we know that LeBron is a better basketball player, an arguement can be made for Davis being the best in the league. New Orleans lives and dies with Anthony Davis, but when they live, he's going to put up all world numbers like last night.

Davis needs to carry his team to fifty wins before we can call him the best in the NBA. He might do that this year. But you could put LeBron on the Sixers and they'd be a lock to win fifty or more (assuming LeBron went after it every night).

Even at 36 years old, it's still unfair to ask other players to guard Kobe. He's insane.
Why's it unfair?

I didn't think he looked great last night, his offensive game is basically dribbling into low percentage jumpers with three hands in his face. I actually thought James Harden looked like an adequate defender matched up with him; Kobe failed to gain separation coming off numerous screens and his endless fakes and jabsteps led to nothing profitable.

I counted two nice feeds to Hill and Davis in the first three quarters, apart from that he monopolized possessions trying to size up his next shot. This is a trainwreck of a team that's going nowhere, namely due to a $20 million anchor named Kobe Bryant.

By the way, the greatest thing so far about this season is that the Lakers have a tank thread on their fan forum. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. :chuckle:

Kobe was torching Ariza and Harden off the dribble last night. The Rockets game planned well and knew that the Lakers do not have one reliable scorer outside of Kobe. The next three options in yesterday's game were Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer, and Ed Davis. Also, the Lakers are terrible at giving screens. So blaming Kobe for not getting off those screens is pointless. They either don't set early enough or are angled incorrectly. Whenever Kobe dribbled through Harden/Ariza, which happened far more frequently than you are giving it credit for, Dwight and another Rocket's player would jump-in and prevent him for getting to the rim. Those two passes you are talking about, as well as the two others he made to Jeremy Lin (which resulted in a foul) and Ronnie Price (which was three dribbles and then a score) prove Kobe can pass the ball. The issue is the Lakers are terrible at getting open without the ball, even when Kobe is being doubled/tripled teamed.

How is it Kobe's fault that Julius Randle hurt his tibia? :chuckle:

The Lakers aren't terrible because of Kobe. LBJ did not avoid LA because of Kobe. Neither did Melo. Dwight Howard is more of an anchor and the Lakers are better off long-term without him.

Somewhat hyped for Wiggins' debut tonight. Will definitely be watching our Maple Jordan, along with the double header on ESPN.

Hear they got Kevin Hart and Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragins doing a concert in Cleveland for the game. So like.....wow

Talk about hype machine.

I kinda wanna lose our first game just to see how batshit crazy the world would go lol
