2014 Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Manziel gets a bad rap from the media...but I truly feel like he will work his ass off this offseason to prove the critics wrong..having a professional like Lebron in his corner will pay huge dividends because Manziel is such a popular figure like Lebron and Lebron can guide him

We going to see much read option?

I know this is early, as we are still in the playoff hunt (which kind of relates to my point), but do people think Jimmy might open up his wallet in a big way to make a big splash for any high level guys (Suh, either of the Thomases in Denver, etc.) to help solidify our position as a good football team?

It sounds like from this article that Suh will play for whichever team offers the most money, and since we are showing signs of life as a franchise do you think we can attract those kinds of guys?

I think it's possible. The key will be to avoid being one of the teams who overpays for a guy who excelled as a result of his situation, thus lowering his performance in his new spot.

D. Thomas or Suh, as expensive as they'll be, would help transform their respective sides of the ball. Manziel's improvisation, assuming he can pull it off at this level, will allow for a lot of 50/50 balls that Thomas and Gordon can normally win.

Suh, as stupid as he can be, is simply amazing. Imagine how much better the coverage and blitzes would look with him anchoring the defensive line.

I would break Jimmy's bank for Suh, issues be damned. That would make our defense truly elite.

In my opinion, I think we'll see less than we did with RG3. Johnny didn't run a ton of read-option at A&M, he just flat-out ran. Perhaps, Shanny will put it in place with the play-action to keep Johnny from taking impromptu runs... I really don't think Johnny will do well if he ditches the script/play as often as he did in school. I'll be rooting for him like hell, though.

I think I kind of like Pettine...

As much as I hate Suh, he would be amazing on our line.

As long as he isn't a huge cancer in our locker room. Which is a 50/50 shot.

The one quote I like from him is....

"I always want to play at a high level, so that's what's going to be my goal just like last week and the week before that," Suh said. "No matter where we're at, I want to play at a high level and impose my will, have teams focus on me, free other people up and at the same time make plays."

Love that at least in that quote, it's not all about him. Now I don't know if that's his agent Jimmy spewing words in his ear to make himself look better, but you gotta like it as it stands now.

I mean, he's a key piece on one of the best defenses in the league, so he's clearly not destroying Detroit's locker room right now. He's an asshole, but he's really, really good at playing football.

That's pretty much the way I feel. He would add that extra nastiness to our defense that was started when we got Whitner.

Anyways, I hope I didn't derail this thread too much (and mods should feel free to move it to a new thread), but I thank everybody for their thoughts.

It's on topic, it's talking about how he would help our current line.

Never would have guessed this...

"...That, and it gets Connor Shaw off of the practice squad and away from the risk of another team signing him (I’ve been told that he’s the Browns long term plan to back up Manziel)."

Manziel/Shaw as a QB tandem makes me ill. Manziel is going to miss games and we are going to have an inexperienced QB with average at best physical abilities as the backup plan. I'd rather have a Kyle Orton, Chad Henne, Matt Cassell type guy as the backup. Someone who is experienced, knows he's a backup up QB but can come in and play well enough for a short period of time.

I also wouldn't mind Jake Locker once Tennessee throws him in the trash. Locker's skill is similar to Manziel's and the offense wouldn't have to change drastically if Manziel goes down.
Assuming that Manziel does well enough in the next three games to demonstrate that he is the undisputed 2015 starter, I believe that Connor Shaw can be an excellent backup to run Shannahan's offense.

I disagree that Shaw has "average at best physical abilities". His measureables at the combine were similar to Manziels. Four year starter under Spurrier. His father is a winning high school football coach.

Since Shaw has been on the practice squad this year, I assume that he knows Shannahan's terminology, and that will give him a leg up next year.

The best reason to like Shaw as a backup to Manziel is since he is a similar type of QB, the gameplan won't change much between the two.

Having said all that, I hope Manziel proves in the next three weeks that we have a starting QB for the future.
