2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Marion has made a ton of sense for a while now and if he is willing to sign for Vet. Minimum then that is a no-brainer for the Cavs. Will give good minutes and veteran leadership behind Lebron.

If they land Marion, they don't need Brewer back from Minny.

Nope. It would be nice if they would make a push for Dieng though. He would complete this team perfectly. I know the Wolves don't want to give him up but we didn't really want to give up Wiggins either. Throw a second first round pick in the deal if needed and get it done.

I doubt Minnesota will include him. That's probably why we've heard the name Arnett Moultrie. I could see him being part of the trade coming back to Cleveland. Young big with plenty of upside. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cavs try to add another big after that as well.

I think they'd prefer to get Marion instead of Brewer, especially if it means they can keep Harris.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

Marion and ZBo are my favorite two players in the NBA, so having one of them on the cavs would be amazing. Plus, Marion actually plays defense so we could use him.

Kind of a shocker to see Marion met with the Cavs, is he willing to take a decent pay cut to try and win at least 1 more? Who knows.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

If we can bring in Marion and hopefully Allen we're getting rid of the idea of having no playoff and no championship experience on the team. Yes they won't be huge contributors but they can play roles and provide leadership. Not to mention that the center piece of the team is playoff and finals tested.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

Having Marion would make it much easier for us all to digest the Wiggins trade since he's a very capable defender.

The Matrix on this team would solve the hole on D we'd have if Wiggins were traded. If he signs and we get Love, we're all-in on getting a title this year. Wow.

Not really, it's shocking that the Cavs and Pacers are the only teams associated with signing him after Dallas signed Parsons. I like our odds in getting him and really you can't go wrong with this roster, championship experience across the board, young players with room to grow and, eventually a trio of Lebron, Irving, and Love.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

No doubt Lebron on the team is leading this but I could see Griffin checking in with Marion fairly regularly through free agency. Knowing that if things fell the right way there would be a chance we could bring Marion in.

Could the Cavs redirect JJ Barea to the Mavs in a S & T for Marion ?

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

I'd be very excited to land Marion, especially for the minimum. I find it very hard to believe he'd accept the minimum though. Since LeBron signed, I have wanted Marion. I was hoping we would use the money we spent on Mike Miller on Marion instead. If we get both of them, that'd just be incredible when you factor in how little money we had to offer.

The Mavs are over the cap so they wouldn't be able to take him without shipping one or more guys out of equal salary as Barea. Philly might take him along with Bennett since they're in asset collection mode.

In theory, yes. Although it might get tricky financially or require a Barea trade to happen first. Mavs would have to clear space, and no way they're doing that for Barea at this point.

So, in practice, no. I also don't think the Mavericks have any way to sign Marion to a reasonably priced deal (and then trade him) or else I think they would just sign him for themselves. I think they are down to veteran minimum contracts as well.

There are other teams that could offer Marion more money (Hawks, Pacers, and others). We'll see if Griffin was able to sell him on his role, his minutes, their shared history, and the Cavs future.

I was impressed both by Marion and by the Cavs that they even got him to visit -- a little surprised they didn't have to fly somewhere else and beg. I'm not expecting him to sign, but it would be fantastic if he did.

Anyone know who is sitting on Griffin's left?

From the research I did it's most likely this guy
