2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is why FA just usually isn't smart for teams like Cleveland, Detroit etc.

Having to pay guys like Meeks and Jack over 6 million a year just isn't good business.

ron jeremy is running detroit to the ground

I think Meeks can be a solid guy off the bench, but 6 mil is laughable.

Looks like Isiah Thomas turned down Detroit

I don't think that is a bad deal, I know people are going to make fun of it but it's not that bad. Meeks averaged 15pts 3rbs 2asts 1stl shot 46% from the field and 40% from the line. The thing the Pistons lacked the most was shooting and this is the first step in fixing that, Meeks is now probably the best shooter on the roster aside from Singler.

I'm also going to assume that they aren't going to match Monroe, will be probably look to move Jennings and/or Smith as well.

BTW
Brandon Jennings is terrible, close to the worst shooter ever I've seen play the PG spot on the floor also his shot selection might be worse than his actual ability to shot the ball.

Guys who can shoot off the catch are at a premium right now. That's not a terrible deal for Meeks.

Last year people thought Jack was a great signing

If Bosh and Wade are sacrificing this much it isn't to sign Trevor 'I only play good in a contract year' Ariza. Not saying Melo is imminent but if they take that much of a sacrifice to sign a journeyman player like Ariza they are nuts (Of course unless someone ie. Riley/CAA is taking care of them under the table which wouldn't shock me either). Of course CAA also reps Melo so wouldn't rule out any shadiness.

So they are going to have roughly enough space to add one of Lowry, Gortat or Deng?

All of those players are going to get 10+ million this off season.

And that still makes Miami a better team?

I think Riley probably thinks he can get all three. Split the 12 between Lowry and Gortat then give Deng the 2.5 from the room MLE. He's deluded himself into thinking that quality free agents will take large pay cuts to play there.

He dug his own grave by handing out those opt out contracts in the first place. So many teams cleared cap space that there's plenty of money getting thrown around. That means fewer people willing to give a discount.

I am going to throw out a name that people might make fun of but I think is intriguing-Blatche.

It seems like someone leaked these number for Wade and Bosh to put pressure on them. Since that reporter is based in Portland it must have something to do with Nike.
