2014 Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Am I the only one who thinks that besides him being terrible, the Browns got rid of Little for the good of Josh Gordon

Didn't Torrey Smith go one pick before Little? Ugh... at least the Lions saved us from ourselves by drafting Titus Young before we got the chance.

It would have been worse if Torrey Smith was on the board and we still picked Little. :chuckles:

Cool, but don't really care why they parted ways with him.

Guy sucks. Good riddance.

I do care in the sense that if it was character concerns, the FO just sent a big fucking message to everyone else on the team, especially the rookies about to start minicamp. Doesn't matter where you are drafted -- a bad attitude will get you shitcanned. And if there really were "character concerns", I imagine most of the vets would have been aware of them as well. It may be addition by subtraction that adds to the credibility of the new Coach/FO.

Not like this was the deepest WR draft ever or anything.

I'd rather have one of the WRs we could have got at pick 35 than be hoping some 7th rounder who hasn't played a game has a breakout season (Charles Johnson) like some people here are hoping for.

I'd rather have one of the 2nd round WRs this year over Charles Johnson too, but then we would still have a massive hole at RG. Bitonio was a fine pick at 35, and with having a rookie QB it was a smart way of protecting our investment. You can't fill every need in one draft. Austin, Bennett, and Burleson, while not the sexiest group, are sure handed veteran guys that will help our young QB in the short term.

Yes, it was a deep WR pool, but most, if not all, of the highly touted WR's were gone by our pick in the 3rd round. Donte Moncrief was the only one still on the board that I felt would've been a good value at our pick, and the Browns clearly weren't too high on him as they opted for Christian Kirksey instead.

I'd say the message was more that, if you suck at football, you're gone.

Kinda mixed on the release of Little. I'm a little surprise given the likely suspension of Gordon. It's disappointing how Little's production has literally dropped every single season.

He has the talent to be a quality number 2 receiver, but his head just isn't in it long enough to be productive consistently. I remember screaming at the TV when Torrey Smith went to the Ravens ONE SPOT ahead of when the Browns were drafting Little.

I take it back, I'm glad that happen, because knowing the Browns they would have passed on Smith to draft Little anyways. Some things are better unknown.

The thing is that the Browns knew he sucked long before today, so why didn't they release him earlier, so he could have participated in FA or whatever? And, it doesn't sound (this is speculation, though) that there was any effort to trade him. That suggests to me it wasn't something besides generic suckage that led to his release.

Someone upthread wondered about Little being a bad influence on Gordon, and I'm kind of curious as to exactly what the Browns learned during Tuesday's meeting with Rosenhaus.

I'd say it's pretty simple. Gordon was facing a suspension and we had a limited crop of receivers. With the additions of Bennett and Austin, receiver depth was no longer a major issue, which allowed us to safely cut Little.

I'm laughing at all of the speculating people reaching for conspiracy theories as to why Little was cut.

Look no further than the fact that the guy sucks at football.

Pretty simple indeed.

Lock up others, no use for Little anymore.
